Hi bees. I recently encountered some chargers at Michael’s in a beautiful purple color. They are on sale for 2 for $3 and if I buy them today I would get 15% off my entire purchase thanks to cyber Monday.
I’m still on the fence about spending about $300 on charger plates and I’m not sure if I could make some money back on these, because after the wedding what am I going to do with almost 200 chargers.
Would you spend the money on buying chargers and if so what would be your budget?
And I’ve checked with rental companies in the city, and they only carry standard charger colors. 🙁

I have seen chargers for $1 at the dollar store, but even still yours are pretty close to being the price.
If it was in my budget and I thought I could sell them for about the same cost then I would go for it. It adds a lot to a table and you may be able to cut back on other decor or the centerpieces since they will bring a lot of color and pizazz to the room. (assuming it was in my budget)

I probably would… I ended up not being able to afford them though and went with luxurious linens and clear plates… It definitely isn’t a must have but I think it definitely adds something

I agree. I think they would look beautiful on my table with my champagne linens.
I read on another post that some people buy cheaper chargers and paint them, but you’re right, if standard chargers can be found for $1/plate and I’ll be spending an extra $0.40, it’s not really worth the hassle to spray paint them.

I would and I did. I spent money on the chargers, instead of alternate linens, and I don’t regret it at all. And I think they will add elegance to the tables on the day of.

I actually was able to get a REALLY good deal on chargers from someone on craigslist. They aren’t the color that I want so I will be spray painting them to the color that I want them to be.
The color I want my chargers to be is teal blue which is EXTREMELY difficult to find and when it is found it’s very expensive, so this is more cost effective for me.

I say “Go for it” if you can afford to, especially if they are the color you desire. Otherwise, you might want to look at Hobby Lobby, as they often have great specials. I would think that you would be able to “reclaim” some of the cost by selling them on Craigslist, Wedding Bee, or other sites. Good luck!

I was looking to rent some embroidered overlays or table runners for my daughters wedding. I wasn’t having any luck finding what my daughter wanted. If something was close- it was too high of a price even though she is having a small wedding (about 75 guests- maybe less). I heard about plate chargers on sale in Christmas Tree Shoppes for $1 each and they had a 20% off coupon! My daughter loved the idea- so we spent a lot less on the chargers instead the fancier tables linens. I think it completes the look of the tables especially since she is having simpler centerpieces. Her colors are burgundy, ivory and gold- so I bought the gold chargers. It’s going to look gorgeous!

I would and did as well. I actually bought mine from another bride off of the bee classifieds! She charged me a buck a piece and they’re perfect.

I wouldn’t. I think I’m the only one. If you are unsure about spending that much money and your heart isn’t set on it, maybe it would be find without them!

I would for sure. You can probably resell them for at least $1.00 a piece.

Well, you bees had me convinced! I had printed out my coupon and went to Michaels to purchase them. One Michaels only had about 50 and I went to 2 other Michaels and between both stores there were only 5. So unfortunately I couldn’t buy them. I even asked if I could order them from the store, but since they are seasonal items they couldn’t be ordered. I am so disappointed.
@YSQueen: I guess my next option is to spray paint them. I’ll check Hobby Lobby, I know I have seen them there for $1 each. I’ll buy one just to try it out and post an update so the bees can see what a spray painted charger looks like. It’s going to be a long project!

@jackie_t4701: I wanted them in a bad way, but could not find them in my colour ( a green or purple) but i did find brown ones but the cheapest I could get them to was 3.50 a piece….so i didnt 🙁
I would say go for it just because at 1.00 a piece you could turn around and sell them at maybe .75 piece later and someone will DEFINITELY buy them.
