Would you take Provera?

I had to take about a year and a half ago. My periods were all wonky and I didn’t get one for like 70 days so my doc prescribed it for me.  I took it for a few days and got my period.  After that my cycles actually regulated and although were longer (around 35 days) they were regular! Good luck to you!

I took it after 3 months off bcp and no AF.  It was comforting to see a withdrawal bleed FINALLY and start a fresh cycle, although unfortunately it didn’t bring my natural cycle back.  But my OB said it does jump start things for many women.  FX it works for you!

Weddingobsessed:  I’m currently on CD 57 with no sign of AF either and thinking about talking to the doctor to get something such as Provera but I don’t think I will until like CD70-80. This is my second cycle after BC (first was 28days) so I figured this may happen. We’re also TTC and all my bloodwork was fine. It’s really up to you. For me I think I’ll take it if I miss three periods, which would be CD 84.

You’re welcome!  It can take a while for periods to get back to normal after you stop bc, like several cycles.  Normal bloodwork is a good sign, although frustrating when you want an answer! It may just take a few more months for your body to sort things out, which is not what you want to hear when you are ttc.  But keep ttc and you can even start temping to confirm ovulation that way if things don’t normalize you will be armed with info for the doctor to move forward quickly.

crazycowlady:  Same here.  Got my period, started cycling again.  It’s worth a try — doctors prescribe it for a reason.  And it likely won’t hurt anything.

In the same boat! Even though it’s frustrating, it’s actually really comforting to hear that there are more women experiencing the same thing as me! I stopped the pill at the end of April after being on it for 8 years and had 3 normal cycles. Then TTC for the first time in August and then nothing! Period just stopped out of nowhere. I called my doc around CD55 or so and took the Provera she gave me. All my tests also came out normal. Unfortunately, the Provera didn’t jumpstart anything for me after it gave me that initial period right after taking it. I’m now on CD70 of this next cycle with no period in sight 🙁

emilibenn:  I’m sorry to hear it didn’t jumpstart your cycles! I’m on CD 66 now and can imagine how frustrating that must be to have two very long cycles! It is comforting to know there are more women in this together!

I had horribly long cycles (40-100 days) and once I started seeing a fertility specialist, he basically told me that even if you did ovulate really, really late in a cycle (think like day 50+) it’s likely that you wouldn’t conceive. Of course it can and does happen, but the odds are not great. I was recommended to take Provera after a 60+ day cycle, and wasn’t really up for it. I decided to take his advice, we monitored my next cycle, did a round of Clomid (while on Metformin) and conceived my son. 🙂 So I say if the doctor is recommending it, go for it. It might be good to reset things and start from scratch. 😉 My cycles were awesome for my first 2 cycles after BCP pills as well, then went TOTALLY off the rails for the next year.

Weddingobsessed:  MrsN14:  Update! So AF decided to show up on CD73! I never thought I’d be so happy to get a period hahaha. We’ll see what the next month/cycle has in store though :/ I hope all of us (really our stupid hormones) can regulate ourselves out soon!

emilibenn:  Yay for AF showing up and being able to start a new cycle! Hoping your cycles regulate now and don’t have to deal with these long cycles!

I’m on CD 70 today, Dr. told me to come in if I go past CD 90 so I’ve got awhile. I woke up last night puking and DH swore I was pregnant, but nope just the flu, joy!
