I bought a really pretty fake stone off Ebay. Had it set it real gold and it sits on my right hand. It’s a "faux" round canary diamond, about 2 carats. I’ve had lots of people ask me if it was real because it’s awfully sparkly. It gives my diamonds a run for their money if the light hits just right. My friends all know it’s not real because, duh, where would I have come up with that kind of money?!?!
So that got me thinking, if you have a fake CZ and/or your ring looks real but it isn’t a real, regular diamond, would you cop to it? Or let everyone think your FI spent a bunch of money on your bauble? Just wondering.
I just tell everyone "i bought it on ebay, i’m not real sure what it is, i just thought it was pretty"

I wouldn’t lie a say it was if it wasn’t, but I might do what you did and say you didn’t know what it was.

Personally, if my ring was fake and someone asked if it was fake…I would fib and say it was real. Whose business is it anyways!?!?! That said, I can’t imagine anyone asking "is it real" in response to seeing an e-ring.

I wouldn’t offer it up as a conversation topic but I think I’d be honest about it. Good question!

I love your answer! I think it answers the question without answering the question…hope that made sense. I feel like people are a little rude when they ask questions like that, and your response kind of stops that line of conversation!

I know! But people still ask those kinds of things anyways. Same as "how many carats" or "wow that must’ve cost a lot" some other things that i’m just like "uhhh you just made me really uncomfortable". It’s like asking you if yo’ure sleeping with your FI. yes, i’ve had that too. Uhhh, wtf. manners people? Ok, weddingbee is different. You all don’t REALLY know me
I would never ask another woman if her wedding ring/engagement ring was real! I’d assume it was or it wasn’t. Sometimes I see these beastly things and I go "wow…either they’re completely ridiculously loaded or maybe it’s not real?" but I would never ever ask!
I think if we ever upgrade my stone and we find a fake stone i like enough that looks good (or even a white sapphire since I hear they are so pretty and sparkly!), I’ll TELL my FI to do that but we’ll just say it’s a diamond and nobody will know the better. I wouldn’ get anything so ridiculously huge we couldn’t afford it in the first place. But I’d rather like, have a car or my kids’ tuition paid off 😛

Well, I have a real engagement ring, but fake cz studs, which are pretty large. Because my ering is pretty big, people just assume my earrings are as well. I can’t ever lie, so if somebody says they’re pretty, etc. I usually confess! I’ve only let one or two people think that they were real too and they were bitchy woman who’s husbands work with my husband.
I overheard one later telling her husband that she needed new earrings because mine were so big and I was so much younger! HA!

Well, as my grandmother would say – "wear real and fake and keep them guessing." She was a true diamond gal, and I now wear her engagement ring which is so huge most people think it is fake… whatev – it is a rude question to ask 😛

seriously sometimes i think people are just plain rude when they ask these questions, frankly its none of their business whether its real or not.
i would say: "why if it is are you goin to try to steal it? if thats the case i better be careful around you" and laugh and walk away. lol
seriously some people just don’t know when to mind their own business

I like that comment! Hilarious.
I mix up a lot of my fake and real jewelry too. I make it a point not to wear costume-ey jewelry though but mostly cuz it isn’t my style. I have some really gorgeous drop CZ earrings that everyone wows at. I just say, "thanks my grandma gave them to me" and she DID! They’re each about a carat equivalent. But, I’m not lying by saying Grammy gave them to me.

I don’t know what I would say…I guess it would depend on why I had a "fake" diamond. If it were by my own choice (like a political stance against diamonds) then I would probably admit it openly. If not, then I might feel more apt to declare it "real".
But I actually collect gemstones of all kinds: expensive, rare, inexpensive, common. I collect them from all over the place. Some are already set into jewelry, others are loose stones that I have set. People ask me all the time "are they real?" But I wonder if they know what they are even asking. Yes, all my pieces are real – real sapphire, topaz, amethyst, quartz, citrine, morganite, emerald, diamonds, etc. But Moissanite, for instance, or CZ, is also a "real" stone with a luster and shine all its own despite that fact that it is not a diamond. Just my deep thought for the day…

Oh heck no! If anyone actually asked, I would totally lie and say they were real! Let people assume what they want.

I would definitely not tell anyone it’s fake…it’s none of their business, anyway. =) Let them gawk if they want!
