If I could find a used dress that I loved and it was in great shape, I wouldn't even hesitate to buy it. I'm looking for any ways I can to save on our wedding. The way I see it, if the dress was worn for 5 hours without any mishaps, its still virtually brand new. Get it cleaned and it will be perfect for a fraction of the cost.
I'd definitely wear a sample or used wedding dress if it was in good enough condition and if I got a major discount on it. When I was dress shopping, however, samples were only about 10% off, except for discontinued dresses, which were 50% off. I went to like 10 dress stores and it was the same everywhere!
I bought a sample wedding dress. I loved that I only paid 1/3 of the original price. I wouldn't have been able to purchase it at full price.
I bought a sample wedding dress at 30% off. It was a no-brainer for me: I saved several hundred dollars and no one will ever know!
I'm going to a sample sale tomorrow and I'm PRAYING that I find my dress there! They are from $100-$300! I HAVE TO FIND A DRESS! LOL!!!!
My dress was a sample that didn't appear to ever have been worn. As far as used is concerned, I wouldn't do it unless I could see the dress first. The "used" dress websites have a lot of brand new dresses on them.
@ellar:definetly! my dress is a sample and it was SO much less exepensive. IF you add alteration, dry cleaning and having it pressed into the cost its STILL sooo much less expensive than retail. Plus no one has to know it was a sample ; )
My dress was used, and has now been sold so yet a third bride can use it. NotFroofy's was a sample. As far as I'm concerned, any way to bring down the ridiculous prices of a dress for just one day is a good thing, along with being environmentally friendly.
my dress is a sample dress and I got it for 50% off!! I would definatly go for used/ sample you get such a deal sometimes! :)
I did.... LOVED my sample! I ended up getting a $3,000 dress for $500! Waaaaay worth it!
I got my sample dress for $100. Totally worth it as it was originally $1500.
I bought 2 dresses. One was used and the other a Maggie sample dress. The used one was actually in better condition. I just don't think I'd purchase one that had been altered around the bust or sides or too short of a hem but why not buy used? I don't think guests would really notice.
Just bought my dress today from a sample sell! I'm SOOOOOOOOOOOOO thrilled with it!!!
Mine is a used sample. It is in amazing condition. Not all used or samples are in the same condition. It can take patience - shop around and find what works for you and your budget. I would have never been able to afford such a nice dress brand new so it works well for me!
i bought a sample dress and i wouldn't change it for the world! i feel like the Eliza Doolittle in: "MY FAIR LADY". i can dance all night!
I tried on used dresses but didn't find "the one" unfortunately. I ended up buying new. I wish I had known about the wealth of used dress websites and local consignment shops, but oh well. I love my dress and I'm fine that I spent full retail price on it since it fit in our budget.
I'm always looking online at www.preownedweddingdresses.com for used weddng dresses. However, I'm certainly not opposed to a sample if it's in good condition.. My wedding will be a very tight budget so this is most likely the option I will choose (used or sample)
I have however also found a dress-maker on Etsy that I think shows alot of promise. (mostly bc I have my heart set on an Amsale gown) www.etsy.com/shop/bridalblissdesigns
My dress is in PERFECT condition! Not even wrinkled. However, I will still clean and press it closer to my wedding date!
If any of the sample sizes actually fit me and I loved them, I would have jumped on it. That's a great way to save some money without sacrificing any quality whatsoever! I wouldn't ever have the guts to buy a dress online, though, because I would be afraid it wouldn't fit.
I bought a sample dress for 30% off! Its Cincinnati Blue by Enzoani and they only had it for two weeks! I was also the 2nd bride to try it on!
I have no problem buying an used, sample, or any kind of not brand new dress. It will be the first time I will wear it and if I can save some money by doing that then heck yes! I was so upset my dress wasn't a sample that I could buy. The only store that had it in couldn't sell it because it was missing some minor beading and was a little dirty on the bottom. I understand that. I wouldn't want a damaged dress but if it weren't damaged I would have bought that sucker on the spot!
I would've loved to find a sample or used dress. Unfortunately, I'm pretty tall, so most of the stock dresses were too short on me :(

My dress was a sample - and it was 60% off. I did have to pay for alterations, but I LOVED my dress!
I never thought I would buy a sample dress, but I did! If I hadn't of bought the sample I never would have been able to buy my dress, it was way out of our budget. I love my dress, no stains, no tears, and the only alterations I need to get done are the bustle and have fake boobs sewn in. I <3 my sample!
I was looking for awhile, and if I could have found my dress as a sample or used one, I would have bought it!
I didn't get a huge discount but I bought a sample/off the rack dress. It's different then what is usually worn in my hometown so not many girls had tried it on so yay me!
I most definitely would. My original wedding dress (before we eloped) I bought used from a lady on oncewed.com. She changed her mine so it technically wasnt used but she bought it as a sample and I got an amazing deal on it. It was an Amsale dress that retailed for 3200 and I paid 850.

I would totaly rock a used wedding dress. I am not doing so because I have no patience for shopping, lol. I went to DB and bought the first one i liked in my price range. lol. i know. i'm wierd.
If the sample was in good condition and fit me, I'd buy it.
Problem is most of the samples are too small. :-(
Also, the sample of the dress I LOVED is a Fall 2009 and has rips in the fabric.
As for used, I'd have to see the dress in person and try it on to feel comfortable buyin used.
I bought a sample which is actually a really old and discontinued style. It was in the very back of the store and the consultant hadn't brought it out in ages. It is in excellent condition and I am super excited about it!
I bought a sample only because there was no way I could afford brand new. Sure, I could of settled and got something new and less in price but I'm very excited about my sample and can't wait to wear it!
I bought a sample ( I think that the dress normally retails for somewhere around $1500 and I paid $687- including tax.). The dress was actually too big and not exactly the style that I wanted. I found a dress that I loved, but I didn't love the price tag. So, my bridal consultant helped me find a sample dress with a similar neckline. I loved the fabric and the neckline, so I bought it. After a couple of dates with my seamstress (last fitting is coming up!), we completely tapered the skirt so it is now a slim A-line, added straps that match the pleated (difficult to explain but look awesome) bodice, removed all the crinoline, and created a small sweep train. Oh yeah...and we took it in. :)
I'm not going to lie; my alteration fees were expensive ($322), but I get the dress that I want at around the price I wanted to pay....AND it's HALF the amount of the "dream dress".
Samples/pre-owned dress are a good deal, great for the environment, and can allow you to have your dream dress without the cost, but you have to take into account alterations and cleaning fees (I was lucky. My dress was in really REALLY good shape).
My family is very traditional, so since my parent's had a divorce and no other successfully married family member could contribute a dress I purchased a new one. We are very superstitious that if you wear someone's dress and their wedding didn't work out, you too will be doomed to have a failed married (Silly? Not something I'm willing to find out!).
A sample dress didn't seem as special to me either, but if it was fairly new and had little alterations and repairs needed I might have consdiered that option if I had a tighter budget. The new dress just seems perfect to me because no one else has ever worn it...not even to try on :)
