Kind of a weird question, but I’m going dress shopping this week for the first time… Eek! I’m taking two bridesmaids and my mom with me, and I was trying to decide what to wear to be half naked in front of them and a stranger. I’m on the larger side, I’m a squishy size 14 in dresses, and I typically wear the Spanx that go over thighs and belly under any dress. I thought that might be a comfortable thing to wear in front of others while trying on dresses… but years ago I sold gowns, both off the rack and couture, and I’d never seen anyone do this…
Side benefit I’d definitely be able to tell how see through something was, as it’s black…
Edit: Agh! Wrong, board, sorry this should have gone under the dress board.

Well I think it’s a little weird, but I voted yes, why not? If you are planning to wear them on your wedding day, you might as well wear them to try on dresses!

@MrsGrayIndy: I am too! I’ll be going dress shopping soon, and don’t want to be in just a bra and underwear infront of a consultant. I know I should just check my feelings at the door, but I really am pretty modest and would like to have something more on.
Ladies who do answer – which style do you suggest? I’m thinking about purchasing Lust Have High-Waisted Half Slip. Would this work?

if you’re planning on wearing spanx on your wedding day, then it makes sense to wear them when you’re trying on wedding dresses. i don’t wear spanx or shapewear in general, but when i tried on dresses i tried to wear the undergarments i planned to wear on my wedding day.

@lilchicana: I agree. Wear what you plan on wearing for the big day.
Are you looking for a fuller dress like an A-line or ballgown? Or something a bit more form fitting? You may find you don’t need the spanx at all if you are opting for a fuller gown.

I wore a long line bra, but it probably wouldn’t fit with the high waisted spanx. What will be your bra with these?

If you’re planning to wear them on your wedding day, why not? I mean, if it’ll make you more comfortable in front of the people you’re bringing to shop with, then I say go for it.

I thought about doing that, but ended up deciding against it. However, I don’t see anything weird with it.

I wore spanx and a bustier. Not weird at all. If you will be wearing it under your dress then why not when you try dresses on?

I was told to bring anything and wear anything that will make you feel confident and sexy…hell yeah, wear some spanx! I wore a tummy smoother thingy, and it made me feel more comfortable!

You should go shopping in what you plan on wearing the day of your wedding. How else are you going to get a true picture of how the dress will look on you. I wore spanx, strapless bra, and shoes the same height as I knew I was going to wear at my wedding.
On SYTTD, the owner actually says you should buy your bra and underthings first and then buy a dress around that, don’t know that I agree, but that is her advise to brides on her stores site.

The times that I have gone dress shopping, I didn’t wear spanx. I’m a size 10/12 with a bit of a tummy. I was actually surprised how well boning worked to shape my mid-section to make me look slimmer

I made my sister run out during my dress appointment and buy spanx and a strapless bra from a TJMaxx down the street. I wouldn’t have purchased my dress without it, I didn’t feel confident until I slipped them on. If it’s what you plan on wearing on your wedding day, wear them to try things on!
