I had problems wearing mine to Disneyworld! But I’m probably just paranoid. I actually wouldn’t be worried about them being stolen, I’d just worry about losing them. They get really loose when I get wet, so swimming or in the shower I always have to take them off.

I had my wedding in Mexico (at a large resort) so I did bring them, but on a normal vacation I wouldn’t.  Not only is there theft issue (which doesn’t really concern me since I was at a big fancy resort) but you could easily lose them if you wear them in the water.  Because I was worried about this, I left them in the safe in my room all the time and only put them on for dinner.  Actually one day I thougth I lost my engagement ring and was freaking out.  I’d grabbed something else from the safe and actually grabbed the ring with it (stupid me for not bringing a box).  I eventually found it in my purse, but was a stress.  Who needs that in paradise?

Not worth the hassle (and maybe you won’t have a safe?).  Just leave them behind.

I don’t think I’d wear them around on vacation, period. There’s so much going on, and it would be easy to leave them someplace or for them to come off.

What about buying a stand-in from Berricle? You could still look like you’re wearing your rings, but if you lost them, you’d be out less than $100.

I don’t think I’d be any more worried than when you were in Italy, unless you’re planning to go off the beaten path at some point (which I feel is dangerous in most foreign cities). I’d be most worried about losing it in the sand or in a pool.

i’d have no problem wearing them as long as you’re staying at the resort. as long as they’re on your finger, i dont’ think there’s anything unsafe about it

I have travelled to countries that a lot more dangerous than Mexico and I’ve always worn my rings. I think you should do what you are most comfortable doing but if your fear is crime specifically I don’t think there is much chance of it being an issue in Cancun (more than it is anywhere i.e. there is always some risk).

Statistically many US cities have higher crime rates than Cancun. If you look at Mexico’s homicide rate it seems high as compared the US in general: 22.7 vs. 4.2 respectively. However if you look at specific US cities then Cancun’s rate is actually much safer than many US cities.  For example, Cancun’s homicide rate is 1.8 per 100,000 inhabitants, while New Orleans is 49.1. Even Boston has a homicide rate of 11.3 per 100,000 inhabitants and it is one of the safest cities in the U.S.

@hotpinkbride:  Oh, wow, you meant THIS Wednesday. I think I’d leave them, then. And have fun on your trip!

I would buy a stand in like PP suggested. Head to Nordstrom Rack, that’s where I bought my $12 stand in!
