newbeelove:  So you were hired as a permanent employee and now he changed his mind and wants you to be a temp? If that is the case then that is messed up! He should have hired a temp in the first place instead of making you think you were directly hired.

I don’t know what I would do.  Hmmm…money is money but I’d start looking for jobs asap and hope I land another one before he gets to choose the “right candidate” just so I can leave him high and dry lol.  Because what he did is pretty low.

newbeelove: why not have a frank conversation with him about what he’s looking for and the preceived gap? It’s possible that after thinking through all the training you need, he realized that you aren’t a great long term fit. They might need someone who is more plug and play for the long term, especially if they don’t have the resources to invest in your training in a timely way. Just speculating here.

Also, if the business is in flux, there may have been some business decisions made that changed the role requirements. It happens.

However, they like you and have a bunch of work they need back filled, so why not ask if you’re open to this arrangement? If you will be bitter, don’t do it. You never know when you’ll run across these people again, and it’s better to gracefully decline than put in time while making a bad impression.
