@LittlePumpkin:  I would not personally want to upgrade. I have thought about “what if” something happens to it, I think I would try to have another one made just like it. But then again, you never know. My first wedding set, I was ecstatic it with to begin with, but I got tired of seeing it every day for 4 years. I’ll never know if I would have upgraded because I got divorced. But even when I was getting tired of looking at it, it never occurred to me to want to buy something new. So I guess my answer is I don’t plan on it, but never say never.

I absolutely love my e-ring and never, ever want an upgrade. But I also picked it out 🙂

If I had receieved a hand-me-down that I wasn’t in love with, definitely! That sucker would have been plopped in a different setting from the beginning (if $$ wasn’t an issue) or I would hope for an ugrade in the future (his mom obviously did).

Personally I wouldn’t ever want a different one.  With that being said I basically picked mine out.  I can understand that you aren’t really a fan of yours so you want a different one.  It sounds like it’s a family tradition for the daughter or daughter-in-law to keep the ring until she either has a daughter-in-law or her daughter is getting married.  Is you getting a new ring faster far more important than tradition?  I’m not judging.  I just think you need to think this over and if you really want a new ring he should be respectful of your choice.  Your the one wearing it not him.

I got an upgrade, not by choice. I broke my first setting so I went from a solitaire to a pave antique setting. I was bummed at first but now I’m over it. I think I can love any ring

I have upgraded once, and am planning a second upgrade.

(wedding date above is not correct- have been married over three years).

I still have my original set, and they are very much a part of my rotation. I just like variety. Hubby does not mind me upgrading, as long as I don’t ‘upgrade the husband’ lol.

I have a white gold claw set solitaire with two curved matching bands (original), a larger oec diamond bezel set with a scattered diamond band (custom made) and now am planning a yellow gold set, with seven stones, alternating bezeled sapphires and diamonds.

I feel it is no ones business but mine and hubbys, and we have ample money in savings, not like we are putting these on credit 🙂

I don’t ever want to, but we’re open to changing it in the future because my stone is a bit soft and the band is thin, so it may or may not hold up after a lot of years

I won’t upgrade the engagement ring as I love it and we chose it together. I will probably have to replace my wedding band in a few years though as its only 9crt and appatently now that they can’t use nickle, that’s quite soft. I couldn’t afford itin 18crt.

If your FI is okay with it, why not?  If he isn’t, I’d stray from the topic.

I don’t ever plan to upgrade my ring, but I’m super sentimental. I feel like if I want something else maybe it could be a right hand ring, but to replace the ring my FI asked me to marry him with? No. My FI picked it out himself and I could tell how nervous and excited he was to give it to me. It would break my heart to ever tell him I wanted an upgrade.

My FMIL has a tiny speck of a diamond. My FFIL asked her to marry him when he was 19 and had some crummy little job. They’ve been married 25 years and he is now the vice president of a company – but she still has her tiny ring and I think its the most romantic thing.

I’ve thought about asking for an upgraded setting…well, not really an upgrade, but a different one that is very similar to my current one. My current setting has a unique basket (it’s a halo) that doesn’t allow for my wedding band to go “underneath” my e-ring. While I really don’t mind the gap it creates, I’m worried that after awhile the rings might become damaged by rubbing together and I do not want to solder them together. I would want to keep the original setting and have a gemstone put in it for a RHR. However, I know my FH would never agree to any of this so all I can do is dream. Maybe if they do start to become damaged he’ll change his mind, but right now I’m keeping my original setting and that’s fine with me. I would never upgrade the center diamond though, for some reason that feels more important than the setting (not sure why lol)

I did upgrade and regret it 🙂 that being said, I think FI knows I made a mistake and is thinking about trying to go back to something smilar to my original stone. he mentioned something about “is there anything we are dying to do with the house?” which is what he says when we want to make a purchase and wants to run it by me….to make sure we have the funds. i know he did ok on a job recently. he is a Kitchen designer and work has picked up a bit over the past month….and the holidays are approaching, which is his busy time.

Anyway, enough about me – lol. Just be sure you really want to upgrade, and are nt doing it to “keep up with the Joneses’, as I did 😉

let me add, I upgraded in size but went down in quality. I am seriously considereing (if FI broaches to subject directly) in not replacing the diamond, but keeping the upgrade and doing a simple Moissanite.75-1 ct solitaire. I am really intrigued by them. I am jumping the gun though, because he really hasnt said anything directly!!!
