@Silly_love:  …how closely would the other patrons of the bar have to be looking to figure out that you were actually there alone, not waiting for someone or meeting up with people…go have a drink, I do that all the time if I feel like it.

When I was single, I went to bars alone whenever I was traveling for either work purposes or when I went stag to friends’ DWs. Personally I find few things more empowering than getting up on that bar stool in my cutest heels and ordering a nice big Bloody Mary… but that’s just me. Honestly, I found that the minute I actually started enjoying my own company whether it be at a bar alone or dining at a restaurant alone, was when my SO fell into my lap (not literally obvi, lol).

I think the whole notion of it being “inappropriate” for a woman to go to a bar alone is pretty antiquated. It IS possible to go to a bar and have a drink or two and maybe an app and unwind. You don’t have to be all Paris Hilton circa 2004.

@Silly_love:  I’ve been to bars alone many times. Sometimes to chill and have a lovely cocktail and other times to have full on dinner at the bar and converse with fellow patrons. It’s not weird to me and I suggest you give it a go!

What negative thoughts would someone have on a woman alone in a bar? In the western world, would someone really think a woman was of ill-repute if she went to a bar alone? I certainly hope NOT!

Ugh, no way. If people will leave you alone, that’s one thing! But people never leave me alone…

I only did it a few times after I started going out with FI – we’d be apart (we were LD for a few months) and he’d actually encourage me to go, lol.  One time I went on a Saturday night when one of my teams was in the championship series and the bar was packed and it was a blast!

I’ve eaten at restaurants alone and I have definitely drank alone but I’ve never been to a bar alone. I don’t know if I have a certain perspective of a woman alone at a bar there’s nothing weird about someone needing a drink and wanting to do it somewhere with some decent music, but I think for me, I’d rather pay for a $7 bottle of wine and drink in my pj’s. I’m lazy and cheap like that LOL!

I would never do this. I hate going to bars in groups, let alone by myself haha..

If I knew I’d be left alone I’d probably do it.. But I’m one of those people like @BrandNewBride:  someone always manages to talk to me (not just guys, chicks too lol) and its not just a “Hey” in passing, it always turns into some longer-then-needed conversation.

I had never been to a bar alone. Before meeting Mr, I would regularly dine alone, sit at the bar and have a couple drinks.

I used to bartend at a restaurant, and it was extremely common to have people come in alone and have a few drinks. Sometimes they would be left alone, but often if a female wasn’t engrossed on her phone, guys would chat it up with her.

I’ve gone to dinner alone many times while FI and I were LDRing it for four years. I don’t think I’ve ever gone to a bar alone, but I have met people at the bar and gotten there first so I was alone for a bit. If I could still walk to my favorite bar I would go there alone on nights when FI is working, however it is now a long bus ride or a drive away, and I usually don’t feel up to it.

I have no issues going places solo: I’ve been to bars and restaurants on my own many times, and would like to go on holiday on my own. Most of my friends won’t go anywhere like that on their own and I find it a bit sad.

i’ve gone alone from time to time.  I generally dress a little more conservatively, but that’s about it.  I don’t love going alone, but sometimes its a nice change of pace.  🙂
