So, my husband has been reading the Harry Potter novels. I have read them and want to discuss them with him, but he's taking his sweet time. I've offered to read them to him, because I enjoy reading out loud and I want to re-read the Harry Potter books anyway, so I figured why not.

Anyways, he says that he thinks it's really creepy.

Would your husband let you read a book to him?

It totally sounds a little ridiculous when I write it out, but I honestly want to know.

So ladies, ask your men if this would fly with them.

We've read to each other in situations where the other couldn't - like when I was in the hospital.  We read "World War Z" outloud while we took our big roadtrip this summer, and we both think it was one of the highlights of the (amazing) trip.

@sarahbabs: See, I've totally read him news articles, or comments on wedding bee. But he thinks a book is just too much and totally weird.

My husband aked me to read to him a few times. He wanted to know the story I was reading. I tried a few times but stopped after a few minutes. I don't have reading voice and it comes out monotone.

My favorite thing to do is read aloud to DH.  We read and discuss it.  In college I had a "book club" which was actually just my friends and I sitting in a tiny cabin reading aloud to one another and smoking pot, or drinking wine and making handmade pizza.  :)

@cutexkitty: I understand. I enjoy reading out loud, I don't know if I'm monotone or not, but I just like it. That's why I want him to let me!!!

Haha, you girls crack me up.  FI likes it when I read short things to him, but we've never tried a book (with voices).  I'm not really sure we'd have the patience for it!

FI was about 10 pages away from finishing the Hunger Games, and I wanted to discuss it with him, but he was driving us home from a road trip.  He asked me to read the end of the book for him, but inisted that I "act out" all of the voices.  I felt ridiculous, but he really enjoyed it, and we both agreed that it was something that we would possibly do again on another road trip.

OMG FI likes to read to me and I LOVE it!  I don't really like reading out loud to him, but I do sometimes.  My family used to read out loud when I was a kid, so maybe that is why I love it so much!

We used to kinda do this.  We would have "book night" and would make coffee and turn on a cool Pandora station, then read books all night.  Usually different ones, but sometimes the same one, or we would read outloud to each other.  Funny enough, DH absolutely loves being read to, and I hate it.  I get so bored!  He's a slow reader, so hearing it is actually easier for him, whereas I read really fast and it's too slow for me to just hear it outloud.

If I tried to read to him, DH would just look at me and say "Honey, they are working with meat on Chopped, could you hold it down."

He does!  On our road trips, he drives and I read books.  The last two I read were Dan Brown books (Deception Point and The Lost Symbol).  I have books saved up on my kindle for our next trip.

Lol. Sadly FI and I do not share a passion for books. He thinks it's insane that I can just lay in a comfy bed and read a book. He hasn't finished the last book I bought him...3 years ago. He'll read his favorite websites all day long, but an actual book? Ha.

I do this sometimes! Usually if I'm reading something, he'll ask me to read to him. I'm a teacher so I'm pretty used to reading out loud, but I don't really do character accents, haha!

That's such a good idea to read aloud in the car during a long drive though! I'm definitely keeping that in mind...

My husband loves it when I read out loud to him! We've read a few books that way, especially when we're driving. I love reading out loud! I read all of the HP books out loud to my sister. She was good at saving up her money so she always had money to buy the books but she was such a slow reader I talked her into letting me read them to her so I didn't have to wait :)

I dont' know how this would work for us, but I have friends that take turns reading to each other in the car and at home sometimes. They lived about 1.5 hours from their families and everytime they went home to visit they would take a book with them. I thought it was cute. I love reading and would totally love reading a book with my FI together outloud. I'm just not sure what his response would be.

I am laughing to myself so hard at the idea of reading abook to my FI and doing the different voices. He would think I had lost my mind! Haha! I will read articles or snipets of articles in the news that I come across to him. But that's about it!

FI and I are reading "the five love languages" together right now.  I like to read aloud, and he is not as fast at reading as I am. Works for us!

When I've tried reading to him but he falls asleep.  :D  And even if he's awake he doesn't concentrate at all and interrupts all the time or makes silly comments.

I didn't do voices though, maybe that'd help to keep his attention! :D  haha

I read to him all the time. It is something we've been doing since the beginning of our relationship. He is legally blind in one eye and has a difficult time reading due to that. I read to him often and he loves to hear it without the strain of having to try and read small text.

I don't read to him (he probably thinks it's unmanly lol) but he reads to me a lot :).  I love it, even when I'm feeling super stressed and anxious it always puts me out like a light lol.  I wish he'd let me read to him though :(

Well - my DH is blind, so reading to him is something that happens daily. But he isn't interested in books so I don't do that.

I don't read to him so much, but he reads to me almost every night before bed. Currently he's reading The Lord of the Rings trilogy, because his dad read them to his mom during every one of her pregnancies.

I have read to my DH while on vacation, sitting pool side. He had been reading his book for hours (as only he can) and his eyes were getting tired, but he didn't want to stop reading. So I took over the book since I was bored, and made stupid voices for the characters that didn't even suit their moods. Like a dark, ominous character in the book suddenly had a chipper, upbeat, almost clown-like personality when I got ahold of it. That's how I roll.

I have never read out loud to my current FI but I it don't think that he would think its "creepy." I used to read out loud (the Harry Potter books, actually) to my ex-husband because his first language wasn't English and he was trying to get better at recognizing English text - but, that is kind of different circumstances.
