congratulations! getting engaged in Hawaii sounds so romantic :) i got proposed to on the beach too, something special about the sound of the surf, sand under your feet :)
Congrats! Hawaii is a perfect spot to propose (we went there for our HM) and emerald cuts are so beautiful. Post a pic when you get a chance. It'll be cool to see the "before & after" of your ring!

Thanks everyone! I have yet to get a decent pic of the ring, but here is one that gives the gist of it now (it is a terrible cell phone pic, though!):
I can't wait to actually go ring shopping for the setting, it will be so much fun!
The beach was Hapuna beach, which really was amazing. I'm still so shocked, and back at work for the first time in over a week, but it's so hard to focus!

I can't believe it, but this afternoon my boyfriend proposed! I have a fiance! It's so weird!
We've been on vacation with his family in Hawaii for the past week or so, and he had been carrying the ring around the whole time, looking for the perfect opportunity. Today was our last full day, so after playing on the beach, we moved to the shade and he opened his camera case. He said he had been looking for the perfect moment, and then he asked me to marry him! I thought he was joking or something, it was so surreal, so I kept asking "Really?! Are you serious?" and finally said yes. It was fantastic. I was so surprised, and definitely did not expect it AT ALL on this trip, so that was perfect indeed.
He got me an emerald cut solitaire, but his plan is to reset it into a more vintagey looking setting. I posted awhile ago about my crazy-pants ring ideas spreadsheet, and since I had told him about it, but we never actually looked at it together. Turns out he knew where to find it and stole it off my computer! So sneaky, and I never had the slightest idea. I am also really proud of myself, I decided before Christmas to not think about it too hard or bring it up until after February, and I didn't!
Anyway, so now I'm engaged and don't have to use the word "Boyfriend" anymore!!! The "finace" thing is going to take some getting used to, though! Thanks waiting ladies for keeping me sane, and for giving me a place to vent a bit!
