Hello all! This is my first real post and I am hoping some of you can help. My fiance will be wearing a kilt (his family tartan) Our wedding colors are based on his kilt as seen below (royal blue, black, ivory with touches of green & yellow in flowers) I want a vintage looking dress that will go well with the kilt. We want to have the wedding outdoors and I am kicking around the idea of using wrought iron in the decor. I would like to find a large wrought iron gate to use as a backdrop for the altar. I have shepherds hooks to hang candles at the ends of the aisles. Does anyone have any advice on using that type of decor? We can’t officially set our date because he is from New Zealand and we are waiting on the K1 visa. We are hoping to have the wedding in March. Thanks for any advice you can give.

Most larger cities have an archtectural salvage business where you can find things like wrought iron gates.
You could even keep it and use it as decor in your home

try local auction houses – many times they have stuff like this sitting in the back that has never sold.
Craigslist might be a good place too – you could even possible use old metal grates and hang them from trees –
Check in smaller local newspapers to see if any farmers have props you could maybe rent.
Time is your friend, dig hard enough and you will find what you are looking for. Be open to the “idea” rather than the exact. Look for anything that is wrought iron while looking for your gate – you could possibly incorporate lanterns, chairs, chandeliers, doors and tables depending on how creative you get. Can’t wait to see the final results! Looks like a great idea and I love that your family plaid has no red! 🙂

Thank you for the great ideas! I love the idea of using the items in our home after the wedding because each time we see it we will think of our special day 🙂 We have a Habitat For Humanity Restore that is close to where I work. I can also check with them and ask them to call me if anything comes in. Thanks again 🙂
