Long story short-I traded out my 5×5 quad set center for a 6.47×6.38 purple spinel cushion, SI clarity which was chipped by a jeweler twice while trying to get the setting right to accomodate the shape/size difference.
I now have a replacement spinel, around the same color, VVS, 5.7×5.6, very sparkly and I like the higher clarity.
This replacement was intended to be a temporary until my custom cut tourmaline gets here at the end of October, which was cut to 5.5×5.5.
My dilemma is I see the size difference between my current stone and the replacement spinel. But knowing my tourmaline was made closer to the size of the replacement spinel, would you keep the chipped stone until the end of october(chips are by the prongs), replace it with the smaller higher clarity spinel, try to exchange the smaller spinel for one that is closer to the chipped stones size(knowing at the end of october the tourmaline is not going to be as big) or your suggestions?
(jeweler has offered to comp the price of the replacement stone and another person will be setting it)
Thanks in advance–I am getting frazzled being stressed about my ring all the time:(
