Our friends got married the weekend before last. We are getting married this weekend (yay! ^_^). We have the same core group of friends. 2 of their groomsmen are groomsmen in our wedding as well.

The dilemma: We already purchased our groomsmen gifts about a month ago. It turned out that the other couple who just got married gave the exact same thing that we are giving our groomsmen--a grill set. My FI wants to get them something different now (which I understand completely of course) but I am kind of irritated because yes, we would be giving them the same thing as the other couple, but it's annoying because, well, ours is a rather better version of it. Our grill utensils are in these nice cases that are monogrammed.

My FI thinks I'm insane because I wonder if the groomsmen who already got a grill set 2 weeks ago might not also like at least the case from these. I know I'm thinking about this way too much, but I thought we were done with these gifts and now he wants ideas on what to get them instead so it's just...overwhelming? And annoying because it feels like a silly thing to be overwhelmed by. Plus? $50 down the drain if we were to "give them to Goodwill" like my FI suggested, which hurts my miserly soul.

    Your thoughts?

Well, do you have another gift that you could give them?  If the groomsman know that you know they already got a grill set, why not try to get them something else?  Good luck!

I would still give it to them. Especially if you don't already have any other ideas. They'll understand they were purchased long before the first set was given, and like you said, they may prefer the nicer case!

Thanks for the great GM gift idea BTW! :)

I would give it anyway, and just explain what happened - your FI can make a joke and play it off; guys can get away with that stuff. Might get a bit of a supplementary gift to go with it though (beer?)

I would get them something new.  You don't give someone a gift you know they already have (especially since it's so new).  My FI just got a monogramed swiss army knife as a groomman's gift and he loved it.
