DH got a job working for a local photographer.  He was thrilled to have a job in his field.  However, when it came time to be paid, the check was not the full amount.  The employer never had DH fill out a tax form, so DH assumed the work was "under the table."

So, when DH's check had money missing, he asked the photographer who replied, "I took out the amount that WOULD have been taken out for taxes."  In other words, he pocketed it.  DH said he didn't agree with this, and the photographer replied, "No one else ever had a problem with it!"

When DH came home and told me, we agreed that he should not work for this person for another day.  However, beyond that, what would you do?  Would you consider reporting this situation, or just let it go?

Yikes. Can he contact the photographer one more time and say that he's not comfortable with the situation, and would rather just pay the taxes? If the guy still refuses to give the money back or to the government, I'd report him. That's really shady.

@carriemat:  I agree and DH tried that.  The photographer is really sketchy.  I don't want to ruin his life or livelihood, but this really bothers me, and I don't want to be involved with anything so illegal (for our part).  :/

Yeah, I wouldn't feel too guilty. It's really dishonest of him to do, and he had to know that being reported was a possible consequence. He's trying to take advantage of your husband.

@cbee: i dont think it would neccisarily ruin him but it would be a large wake up call and you are helping anyone else who could have problems in the futue by reporting him. that sort of thing is just not ok

@aprose: & @carriemat:Okay.  I agree.  He really is taking advantage of DH and everyone else that works for him.
