I did it! I'm making our cake, and did my first trial a few weeks ago. It was a lot of fun, but I'd recommend splitting the project into two days! I spent way too many hours (about 6 or 7, I think) on it, and was going crazy by the end!
I made buttercream frosting, chocolate cake, hazelnut brown butter cake, and a chocolate ganache. The next trial cake I'm be trying something different just for fun. Can't wait to see your pictures!
Pictures? How many tiers did you decide to do?
(Can you tell I'm bored and looking for inspiration this Sunday morning? Haha!)
So how'd it go? I wanna see pics. I've got my cake designed in my head but haven't done a mockup yet.
@MissCake - I'm in the same boat, I did one mockup but since found an inspiration picture I like much better, so I can't wait to go for round 2! I'm waiting til April, though, it's going to be R's birthday cake (his request!)
That's a great idea lilyfaith. I've got some styrofoam cake dummies I'm going to practice on. Have ya'll gotten any, "OMG you're crazy" comments from people when they've found out youre making your own wedding cake? I've gotten a bunch.

So it's a cold rainy night and we had a busy day and night yesterday and an even busier day tomorrow so we wanted to stay in this evening. Well I had the idea of making a mock wedding cake! We know how to make fondant and I've made some pretty cute cakes before. I have to admit, I can't wait for the real wedding cake though! Have any of you ever done this? hehe
