posted 8 months ago in Omaha

I have been reading the blog for months now.  I'm so happy that Omaha has their own board.  I just got engaged on mother's day!! I am soooo excited.  I'm looking for ideas and venues in Omaha.  Any one have ideas?  Thanks!!

Congratulations, Ashley!  I am getting married and having my reception at the Cornerstone Mansion (across the street from the Joslyn Castle).  What does your guest list look like?  Is it long or short?  We should start by narrowing down places that can hold your guests.  Then tell us about your theme or how you imagine your wedding to look like.  Are you thinking hotel,  bed and breakfast, restaurant....

Hey Ashley!  I lived most of my life in Omaha... I'm on the west coast now, but I miss it terribly!  I once went to an amazing party at the Lied Jungle at the Henry Doorly Zoo... basically they transformed the zoo cafeteria into a formal event space and kept the jungle open for guests at night.  This was over 10 years ago, so I'm nut sure if they do it anymore, but it's definitely unique.  I've heard the zoo also does parties at the aquarium.  Good luck!

Even cooler than that-imagine your reception or rehearsal dinner in the Scott Aquarium tunnel at the zoo!  A little on the pricey side though ($2000).  Amy, if it has been 10 years you haven't seen all they have done to the zoo.  I think we made it into the top 5 zoos in the country.  It is our pride and joy.

Hello everyone. I thought I'd come and check it out here.

I'm actually getting married in Lincoln, but it looks like no one wants to post in there.

Even though I live in Omaha, I did some wedding stuff in Lincoln (bought my diamond at Nebraska Diamond), being less than an hour away and all.

Wow Niki, I would kill to have a wedding reception in the aquarium tunnel...There's no zoo where I live :(  Omaha has grown SO much since I left!  The hugely developed area my mom lives in now was farmland when I was in high school.  I love coming back to visit and seeing everything that's new...next time I'll make sure to squeeze in a trip to the zoo!

Make it a day-trip, the zoo is huge compared to what it was 10 years ago.

Hello, I'm from MN, but just was checking out other boards :)  I know of someone who is getting married at the Joslyn Art Museum, sounds like it'll be a pretty cool event. Here's alink to the museum's events page.

I know someone who used the alumni center at UNO (right on Dodge) for their reception and it was beautiful.  Also the Georgetowne Club at 144th and Center used to be popular (not sure if it still is).  Fontenelle Forest and Lauritzen Gardens would both be beautiful as well, depending on the size of your wedding.  As for gowns...I got mine at Ellynne Bridal in Lincoln.  They have been wonderful to deal with.  When I shopped in Omaha I couldn't really get anyone to help me, but have received tons of personal attention and help at Ellynne. Hope this helps!!
