- Wedding: June 2012
So bridal brain is in full effect over here. It seems like every single day I am finding something else I want to put together by hand, myself, for my wedding…
Did I mention that it is in like 5 weeks?!?! No really, like 5 weeks!
Well of course scouring these boards doesn’t help one bit.
I have searched high and low for some dramatic blue shoes to match my theme and fit well with my SILVER bridal gown… Yup, silver. But the selection of blue shoes were fairly blah. SO I then decided that it was a good idea to strass some shoes myself and the hunt for shoes that were comfy enough for me to wear for the whole time. I searched high and low, DSW, Off Broadway, Nine West, Bakers… Not a shoe in sight that fit my style and comfort level. Then I switched gears and went to Macy’s. That is where I found a great selection! Ultimately I decided on these Tahari Kristens…
So here I am, a full time student with a full time job, 5 weeks from my wedding, just starting my crystal shoes… *queue the dramatic music and blood curdling scream* One good thing is that this week is my spring break, so I can work myself to death on them in hopes to finish before next week gets here (which I fully intend to do).
SO, here are some photos of my progress along with a few “oh by the ways” that I noticed could probably be done differently.
First I glittered the bottoms using these
Here is the result…
Afterthought… I mixed the glue with the glitter, brushed it on, then sprinkled more glitter. Once that dried I had to apply three coats of Delta Creative Gloss Exterior/Interior Varnish to seal the glitter so it wouldn’t leave a trail of glitter wherever I went lol… Many people actually decopage it or use hairspray or spray adhesive. I like the fact that the varnish is waterproof and even after one coat the glitter didn’t leave residue. However, instead of doing the sprinkling next time, I’ll just mix it with the glue and brush it on. I used enough glitter that it would have had the same overall effect without the sprinkling… AND I wouldn’t have had to varnish it either… I know this because when the glue dried on the paper bag I used to mix, it had the same effect…
Here are my crystals… I ordered them from ebay, didn’t get swarovsky, and I ordered 10,000 (6,000 cobalt AB, and 4,000 clear AB) in 4 sizes, 2,3,4 and 5mm, just to be on the safe side. Didn’t want to run out… The seller on ebay was Lardystick, she’s in the UK but the shipping was fairly fast.
Next I moved on to the heels of both shoes..
Oh, forgot to mention I spray painted the brown heel and platform silver and had my daughter sharpie the white part of the shoe for me for color continuity on the shoe..
HEELS DONE!!! WhooooHOooooooo!!!
Now to start on the shoes!
SO, I have been home from work for a few hours, got dinner done and we have eaten and now I have squandered one of my crystal applying hours writing this post lol, but I wanted to get it up today, I had every intention on posting on Saturday when I started, but I only worked for a couple hours then went to find a new bicycle…
Anywho, here is what I have, I fully intend to have these done BEFORE my bridal photo shoot this coming Sunday (April 29th), which is 2 days after my bridal shower on Friday, lol. We’ll see how well I do!
Thanks for reading!
Wish me luck Bees!!
