So the venue me & FH are getting married at is absolutely gorgeous at night time.
Could me & FH have a later ceremony at night? We'd have the place lit up pretty well so people could see us & we could see them. Both me & FH love the place at night. But what would that do to our reception, i'm wondering how long it could last?
and if we did do it at night, what are some ways we could light it up & make it look stunning?! :]

I think it could potentially work, but you'd need to talk to your venue about how late your wedding can run and be aware that some guests may leave early if they're not in a late night party kind of mood. I'd also suggest planning to get a lot of your pictures done before dark. If you want lots of photos of the ceremony, they may not come out that well in low light. Just some things to think about.
My cousin is getting married on June 25th and her ceremony starts at 7 in the outdoor gardens of the venue. It's so pretty at night. Then she's having a cocktail style reception starting at 8. It can be done.
I had a friend that got married and had her reception in a similar place... The used so ways to bring in a little extra lighting ie. candle light and then I think a String of ligths around a patio area and all her pics came out GREAT! it looked beautiful.
i think it owuld look great, very romantic and cozy, my only concern would be about pictures. Would you take some day time ones too?
Here are some pcis of some night time weddings to show what i am worried about.

Do you know what i mean? you lose the groomsmen..heck you lose the GROOM. Im sure a great photographer could correct this though....

@iheartnerds: Were going to have more lighting and alot but i'm not sure what to do yet for that. I know theres a little bridge I have to cross to get to the ceremony area & It will have white lights strung over it, but not sure what else yet. I want to do floating candles for centerpieces yet i'm not sure how we will have the centerpieces. and as far as guests go there won't be any older people because theres not many any my family or his, and probably no kids.
@Baileyh: I totally see what your concer is, and yes we will take daytime ones. I know my FH isn't to happy that he'll have to see me before the ceremony to take pics but we both want the night time ceremony.
@Baileyh: I love that!! I think there are a couple of trees at the venue we could do something like that! :]
I love the idea, I think it can be done for sure. If you are having a full dinner reception you may want to cut or do away with cocktail hour and just start with announcements. You may want to do photos prior to ceremony if you are up for that. If not, I'd make sure you meet with your photographer and become on the same page for your timing/expectations. I think it just takes more planning and time conscious for the evening.
@RR: Were thinking about skipping dinner if people have already ate by the time dinner would be but i'm not sure. I know for a fact were having a sweets/candy buffet!
A night wedding is a great idea. I think it would be beautiful, romantic and cozy. You won't have to worry about the gap between ceremony and reception that many brides worry about. I think the main things you have to worry about are 1) what time it will actually be dark outside in late June where you live and 2) how late your venue will let you stay.
@JazzyLovesJerry62412: You should do it then!! I thnk it will be gorgeous. And even more intimate as it will be dark...you might have a hard time seeing all the guests etc. So cozy...LOVE IT

@Baileyh: Okay I love those 2 photos! Especially that last one, to cute! :}
@JazzyLovesJerry62412: Ooohhh sounds awesome. Cake, pastries, what a relaxing beautiful evening!!! You can always do a couple d'oeuvres
Grrrr, it ate the rest of my post!!!
You can always do a couple d'oeuvres trys and crystal type punch bowls illuminated by candlelight!
@2ndtime: The wedding will be in Frisco, Texas & I just contacted the venue about 2 hours ago via email asking how long we can stay, waiting on a reply!
@RR: I'm thinking about having a couple of pies to & we'll also have the grooms cake.
@JazzyLovesJerry62412: I think you should have an outdoor wedding and invite me...i think it would be such a dream!! :)

@JazzyLovesJerry62412: What time does it get dark in Frisco, Texas in June? It gets dark here about 8:55 or 9:00 around here in June. Good and dark a little later maybe. If you want it good and dark, you may have to start later and end earlier if your venue won't allow your reception to go on late into the night. Or, maybe you want the event to just be a few hours long. I don't know. Just something to think about.
@2ndtime: A friend told be around 8:15-8:30 ish there, we were thinking about doing the reception the next day but I like the whole idea of it all at night time because that venue is just so beautiful
Our ceremony is at 7 in this little chapel in the woods, I'm so excited about our night wedding! Our reception is following at the arts center down the street we are having tons of lighting. I say go for it!
i LOVE the idea! i think it will be absolutely beautiful!! use lots of candles! and i love the pic posted earlier of the things hanging in the trees! i don't know what they are, but they are beautiful! :)
@callmemargie: Another person with a night time wedding! :D
Were deff gonna go for it, just gotta find the right type of lighting & centerpieces to fit our theme & colors (:
@soon2beMrsMills: Oh there will be a ton of candles! :)
I just love candles lol
@RR: I just gotta find the right photographer who will do an amazing job! :]
as a photographer, i vote no :) unless you do a first look in the daylight before the ceremony to get crisp, romantic sunlit shots. image quality is degraded at night b/c camera settings must be maxed out. nobody can tell me that a night image shot at ISO3200 is better than a day image shot at ISO200.
@catalyst: We'll be doing photos before so if we can't have any at night i'm not to worried except it would suck, but we really have our hearts set on this.
@JazzyLovesJerry62412: yay!! we are having uplighting at the reception and then led tea lights are incorporated into the centerpieces.
For the ceremony I"m going to hang clear mason jars (the reception ones are aqua) on the pew ens with clear flattened marbles and led tea lights in them. FI calls it the "runway" LOL.
I really REALLY want to find a way to do white x-mas lights on the outside of the Chapel as guests enter but we don't have a lot of time before hand to set up (due to other time slots)
@callmemargie: We also want to have uplighting & for centerpieces i'm thinking bout doing mason jars filled with water and having floating candles in them
& then doing white lights on the bridge. I don't know what else to do yet.
But I wanna do 2 diffrent centerpieces switch for each table but i'm not sure what else to do. I really want it to fit our theme
Were getting married on a Sunday Evening 5pm! =)
And its EXACTLY what we wanted and only could have dreamed of! Our lighting will be TEAL and florals will be RED poinsettias!

@CupCakeMeg: that'll be pretty :) best of wishes to you guys & I hope it goes great! you'll have to post pics
I was thinking this was a little odd and was going to be a very late night until I saw what time it gets dark there! I looked up a table, here sunset for my wedding will be after 10pm.
@AB Bride: The reception will probably end up being late so i'm not sure if were going to end up doing a dinner yet.
@JazzyLovesJerry62412: thank you!!! Your set up is beautiful too! I just LOVE evening weddings! Its one of the FEW requests that FI made, evening and it being outdoors as much as possible. We'll have the reception at the same location but under a beautiful white tent, with TONS of sparkly lights in it! PERFECT!
Does your venue provide lighting or offer any lighting packages/upgrades? In our case, we went through our DJ to have our lighting done! Pretty expensive being $40/LED and JUST the stage requiring 4 so its not TOO bad for us. We opt'd out of doing our Reception tent since that would require 16-18, and I cant afford that at $40/LED!
@CupCakeMeg: Our venue offers a few lighting things but not that many. So i'm trying to see what possibilties we can work with.
DIY uplighting!! =)
