I second Erica Lyn! I looked at her initially then gave her a second look after finding out Miss Gloss is going with her. The FI really likes her style as do I, she has more of a artistic style in my opinon. A different creative edge over your atypical wedding photographer.
Her travel fees are VERY reasonable and she's really great to get along with. From what I understand October is a busy month for her though but definitely try contacting her. Wouldn't hurt! :)

To answer Mr. Bee's very good question, I love love love John Acara's and Josh Lynn's portfolios (links below) - those are the kind of pictures I'm looking for. But I checked out the photographers that are mentioned above and really like the work! So keep the recommendations coming, Bees! Thank you so much! (I'll keep you all updated!)

I'm getting married in Brooklyn the next day and we're using Aaron Almendral. His rates are incredibly reasonable and he came highly recommended from a friend of the family. You should check him out. Good luck!

My fiance and I recently took NYC engagement photos with her. We (and our friends and family) were really impressed with the end result. She did an awesome job and my fiance and I are both looking forward to working with her again at her August wedding.

use mine, he's friend of a friend but does professional free lance photography on the side; $1100 for unlimited hours that day
My photographer doesn't fit your budget but you might try Colorblind. I used them for photos on the plasma screens and they were fabulous. They offer a photography package for $1000 I think.
i think tony yang might charge less than that, but he is super popular so i don't know if he's already booked!

Update, Bees!
I'm still (eek!) looking at photographers (I started a brand new job a month ago, and I've been swamped).
At any rate, I'm meeting with a few different photogs next week - Erica Lyn, Patricia Kantzos, Jörg Windau... they all seem really great. I'll let you know the outcome!!!
i'm using patricia kantzos. she's great. super responsive. she did my friend's wedding too.

New York Metro Bees!
Right! Well... I'm not in panic mode (yet), but I'll bee (ha ha!) there soon. Our wedding is coming up (ish) - October 23 of this year - and we don't have a photographer. Eek! And quite honestly, we're not very close to picking one. Double eek!
I feel a bit lost on how to proceed. I've read tons of reviews, but I'm not sure who to trust. AND... this might sound ridiculous, but I'd like to get 8 hours of coverage with a small (not fancy) album for $3500 or less. I can't find photogs that I like for that price.
Are my price hopes circa 1967? Or can I get a good NYC photographer (ceremony in Inwood, reception in Northern Jersey) for $3500 in TODAY's dollars? Oh... I suppose I should mention that I like the journalistic style with an artsy flair, and I've heard bad things about Bella and Bella-like outfits, so I'm not keen on walking down that aisle.
Thanks all - any recommendations for photographers would be so so so greatly appreciated.
