- Wedding: July 2014 - Barn
So yesterday, we went to go check out a barn location that I’ve heard about (never seen pictures of it, and I was lucky I posted a kijiji ad and someone emailed the phone number to me) and upon arrival… OMG…
It’s about 50 mins from my place, then again I live on the edge of the city closer to it, my FI lives about 15 mins from my place. (Still both at our parent’s place, will be looking for a house this fall and we do plan to look rurally…). Honestly it didn’t feel like an hour drive, we were chit chatting and enjoying the sights and it went by fairly quickly.
Once we got there, one of the first things I saw in the back, but wasn’t sure if it was part of the barn, was a gorgeous gazebo. Once we drove onto the property and I saw it was a part of it, instantly I loved it. There was a huge parking spot and behind that was tons of grass/land and far back was trees – so stunning. We parked and the next thing I noticed was that they already had bathrooms! Awesome! One less thing to worry about:
And of course, I had to check inside (silly me!):
We met with the venue owner – who was awesome and we all felted like he geniuely cares for his property and were interested in us! First he led us into a small room (can’t find the picture of it) that had 2 huge fridges, a huge freezer, microwave, oven, stove, sink, countertop with pantry cupboards – perfect for our DIY appetizers, desserts, cookies, and etc!
The next room was divided in two, the first was 1/3 the space that would work well for the caterers. It has a small garage like door so they have easy access outside (another PLUS as we wanted bbq, so that will be easy for them).
The room that took up 2/3 the space, can be used for an indoor ceremony or we thought we would use it as our cocktail hour.
(You can see the garage door that the caterers would have on their side too. I’m thinking of having it open for people to come in.)
At the very right of above picture is a staircase that leads to upstairs. The sides have these ENORMOUS lanterns that I absolutely love! And this is also when we find out we’re allowed actual candles!!
We head up and my jaws literally dropped when he turned the lights on:
This area we plan to use as both our dining and dancing area as we plan a small wedding. It was just stunning!
We headed back downstairs to check out another building, we weren’t interested in it so no pictures, but I will most likely walk out from there to the ceremony. At this time it started pouring so we couldn’t go see the gazebo, but I did take a picture.
Those trees you see in the picture will have flowers on them in May – I LOVE it!!
He is also putting together another outdoor ceremony area. It has trees around it that needs to grow but may be ready for our date. I think we’ll use the above and then this one for pictures.
The last thing we found out was that we could have a bonfire if we wanted.
I absolutely love it – I’ve actually been shaking the entire time I’ve been writing this!!! First venue we checked out (nevermind the amount of “homework” I did at looking around and seeing prices) and I honestly don’t even want to look at anymore! It’s still very early but I’m glad we have a place in mind and will most likely put the deposit down soon.
I know everyone’s main concern is the time to get out there but honestly? His sister got married two years ago and we drove 30 mins to her ceremony, 30 mins back to the house for “cocktail hour”, 45 mins to the reception, 45 mins reception – so I feel like saying “SHUT IT!”. It’s all in one place and it’s really not that bad – what do you bees think?
