If it makes you feel better I'm pretty much at the same spot...
We have the venues, photog, STDs and dresses. I'm working on getting a caterer and starting to look at DJs.
I'm just about at the same place. Booked the wedding coordinator, venue and photog. That's it so far! I plan to really get in gear just after the new year.
I'm a student so I did a lot over the summer (got engaged in Feb), and haven't done too much in the last couple months. I'm going to be doing a lot next month when I'm off again from school.
I've got my venue, caterer, dress, ALMOST got the photographer, and FI is starting to deal with music. I've got colors and general decor ideas. I don't think you're too far behind.
You're ahead of me! I've only got the date and the venue. I have no idea what I'm going to wear, let alone anyone else, and we haven't selected (or even started selecting) a single vendor. To make matters worse, we are gettin married in Cape Cod, so if we don't start picking soon, we might not be able to get anyone that we like! I love this board, but it definitely stresses me out to see how far behind I am.
HI Sarahsd:
Dont get stressed. I just got married in Oct and read Weddingbee everyday and often felt like I was behind in the planning. My advice so you stay calm is to focus on 1 thing at a time. You have your venue..Awesome. Finalize the photog and then worry about your dress. Once that is ordered, worried about your maids. Dont bring all of them when you shop. Just your MOH and 1 or 2 others. (I brought the hard to fit maids). Once you have that done...then move onto flowers and invites. Those things are easier to tackle.
My job is also very busy & I wasnt able to do all that much doing the day or at lunch :(
Enjoy the mimosa's & Dress shopping. That sounds like a FUN day !
Date twin! I'm with Rabbit; don't stress too much. It sounds like you have plans to get working on a lot of stuff in the next month or so. The venue is so important and it's good that you have that done. I got a lot of stuff done at first but sometimes life will surely get in the way of planning! Just keep making more concrete plans as to when you want to have stuff completed by. I find that helps.
yup. I agree with rabbit. You'll be fine. THere's still 8 months left. I would just say worry about booking the things that are date sensitive-venues, photographers, bakeries, stuff like that, so you have who you want on your days. Worry about your minor details later. THat's what I'm doing now.
I would be careful with yellow. Yellow looks amazing on dark complexions, but may not be a flatering color for everyone.
Hello fellow August brides :) We have been engaged for over a year and a few months and here is what we have done
venue ( includes food, beverage and cake), the church, photographer, limo ( just did today!), my dress, veil, tiara, earrings and 2 garters, (went to a milliner who fixed my mother's veil and she is making my garters and loved her jewelry!)... and i think that is it.. oh yeah and BM dresses picked and ordered!
I agree that time sensitive things I am focusing on.. next is flowers and invitations. After that I think things will fall into place. I sometimes feel the anxiety so I try and take a step back and not go crazy! Best of luck
I've seen weddings planned successfully in two months and weddings planned in over two years. You know how your planning works, so no worries about where others are at.
Make a list and stick to it!
I wouldn't worry about it!
I am doing everything early because I am going to be doing my comprehensive exams for my PhD next term and don't want any wedding stuff to worry about!
Make a list and have fun checking them off one by one! HAHA I am so Type A!
Yay for date twins! I am pretty much in the same boat as you. My FI and I are both students, so we haven't had a lot of time to focus on the wedding planning but have a lot ideas. He's recently been looking at tuxes and rings, awww!
We only have our ceremony and reception and photog set too. But I think we'll all be okay. :) I'm hoping to find my dress and the bridesmaid dresses and get a lot planned over the holiday break. Fingers crossed for being productive!
Well, let's see if this makes any of you feel better. I'm an April bride. Decided not to do save the dates. JUST put down the money for the photographer. Don't have a band. Only 1 of 5 bridesmaids has dresses. The grooms hasn't finalized his groomsmen list.....haven't finalized the guest list and much more, but I still have PLENTY of time
AND SO DO YOU....PLENTY OF TIME!
i got engaged 2 days before thanksgiving and all we've done so far is set the date with the reception place (Aug 15th!). i'll be trying on dresses for the first time this weekend and i'm so nervous that nothing will fit me and i'll be disappointed. other than that, we're going to try to book the ceremony place asap and i've already got a friend who is a graphic designer who said she would help me design my invites (and logo for std's, etc.). i figure that there is 9 months left, so i can take things slow and not be a bridezilla.
@iggie-they have sizes for everyone (most places you go at least
go to Alfred Angelo! I loved them! They have all sizes!) & I'm sure you'll rock out at least one dress during the whole process!
I can definitely understand the stress!
We have been engaged since Feb 14 and just booked our venue. We thought we had a photographer that we loved but due to uncontrollable circumstances it might not be that way anymore. We're in upstate getting married in NYC so the time to meet with vendors is very limited. Just trying to cram as much into every weekend home as possible!
I am SO relieved to finally have a venue that I'm not stressing anymore! Just set goals and try to reach them. =)
Thanks girls! In the last 2 days I finished negotiations with my photog...yay : ) (and coached 3 soccer games and taught a college class besides my normal high school class). Still working on a date for mimosas and dresses!
And Sirouhi there will be absolutely nobody wearing yellow! I agree with your concern. Everyone will be in blue and I'll leave the yellow to the flowers.
No worries!! I am 8/7/10 and we only have the DJ and venue confirmed!! I'm hoping to have caterer and photographer picked out by the end of December, but this stuff takes time, and when you're busy and employed it's hard to handle it all! You're fine :)
Hey Rx...thanks for asking!
Dress is done. Got it over Christmas break and LOVE IT!
I don't have anything else technically done, but the ideas are close to fruition.
BM Dress - have one I like...girls will need to order to try on...should happen in next couple of weeks.
FI is doing the menswear (with my ok needed) and the DJ. We looked at some sample menswear, but not set yet. DJ is next on his list.
We walked through the venue again last weekend and got more of an idea on spacing, what decor is needed.
Next will be to meet with the florist recommended by venue and to figure out the menu.
Oh, and really need to figure out invitations.
Soccer coaching just ended so I feel so free! I have lots of thinking done, but not much to actually show for it. Only one wedding nightmare recently : )

Hi Month Twins : )
So I'm getting married 8/14/10 in San Diego and I have waaay less done than most of you! I have a venue...almost have a photographer and that's really it besides lots of ideas.
I'm a teacher also so every time I browse blogs instead of grade papers I feel bad, but it's becoming more and more of an obsession each day! Right now I'm really looking at figuring out how to design my own invites. I love design, but have no real experience nor software...so I've been downloading free stuff and playing around. I think it'll take hours and hours, but I'm still pretty excited about it.
I have a pretty good idea of colors: dresses will be a bright blue - nothing picked out yet, and the accent was originally orange, but I'm starting to like to yellow too. (My FI is excited about yellow, because then we would have Chargers colors : ). )
Next on the list is the dress. I went to 2 places over Thanksgiving and found some dresses I liked, but nothing amazing... My plan is mimosas and dress shopping over Christmas break.
I love the twins thread! Can't wait to hear more about what the rest of you are doing. Time is flying by! Aaaaagh!
