@sn2bmrsmntgmry:  I’m genuinely curious as to how you envision this to be different than a receiving line?  Isn’t it pretty much the same thing?

Officiant are pretty used yo this. Usually people stay in their seats after the bride and groom exit then the officiant reminds everyone about the reception, then the ushers come up fron and stand next the rows to dismiss them. Similarly to what they do at churches. I dont think that you have to announce a receiving line, just standing in the back of the church it will happen naturally.

This is what we did, and it worked wonderfully. We had a slideshow run while they waited to be released. Our officiant said something to the effect of “the bride and groom would like to greet you individually and thank you for joining them on this special day. Please enjoy the slideshow they’ve prepared while they come back down the aisle to thank you.” We went back to the front and hugged our families and then released each row after that. Our church had 4 aisles so the ushers helped guide the outer rows into the inner ones, but after the first two or three, folks figured it out and it ran smoothly. It was quick, too, because unlike a receiving line, we were more in control of the speed and length of the visits.

Husband and I didn’t have a receiving line, but since we were served dinner first we got done before everyone else and went around to our guests’ tables. I really liked doing that because I felt we could spend a little bit more time with everyone since no one was standing in line behind them. I also have to note that we had a smaller wedding so that made it possible.

@sn2bmrsmntgmry:  Oh okay, that makes sense.  Thanks for explaining.  ๐Ÿ™‚
