You go your whole life trying not to…

Well, I didn’t get married until I was in my mid-40s, and I didn’t have sex until after I was married, so I can’t necessarily relate to what you’re describing. However, I definitely can relate to the fact that, because my DH and I do not use birth control, every time my period is late, I now have the opportunity to wonder if I actually could be pregnant.  What before would have been impossible, now technically is possible, and that’s been very exiting for me, even though I have not yet conceived. 🙂

I know it was a big deal for me the first time my then husband and I had sex without protection.  I was so reliable about contraception right up until we were trying to conceive, so it was a big change.

Definitely strange. We have been using condoms for a few months after I stopped BC, so even though it will be strange with nothing, it won’t be as weird as using condoms with my husband.

@Britt214:  It’s definnitely very strange.  I waited to lose my virginity so I could get on the pill, and used condoms for 12 years.  I was extremely paranoid about getting pregnant.  I was convinced that if I missed a pill, god forbid two, that I would ovulate.  Turns out it took 27 days of being off the pill to O, and who knows how long it will take to conceive.

OMG I hear ya! I have been sooooo careful about not getting pregnant for almost 15 years and now it just feels insane trying to TTC. I never could have dreamed I would feel this way. It is a big adjustment. The first time we did the deed with no birth control, it was like losing my virginity again or something- HA! It has been 46 days off the pill for me and I have nothing resembling a “normal cycle” going on yet. Everything is all wonky and it is making me INSANE 🙁

I hope it goes good for you. Smile

Yes! It felt really weird. And although I’m an educated person about the ins and outs of conceiving a child, it still kind of shocked me that we didn’t get pregnant the first cycle. Thanks to Catholic up bringing I was basically told that ‘you have unprotected sex, you get pregnant’ THE END. lol.  I guess that came back to me when I was confused why I wasn’t automatically pregnant!

Seriously after 13 years of ‘nooooo babies! Condoms! BC!’ to ‘hey lets make a baby’ was a mind blowing experience for me!

Good luck btw! We were lucky and conceived on our second cycle….with twins.

I totally feel this way!  And now we all finally know that it’s actually mildly difficult to get pregnant?  Sighs!  Life is weird i guess!

@Hippos:  Seriously.  I think about all those advice columns for teens where people ask “could I be pregnant if…” -He came in a hot tub and we were in our bathing suits -He came on my leg -He got some semen on his hand and then touched me down there -I was on my period..etc.  The answer was always YES, you can get pregnany any time your lady parts are within six feet of sperm! Panic!

Ok maybe not that dramatic, but that’s definitely how I interpreted it as a teenager.

It’s definitely so weird!!! But at the same time I’m so perplexed by the fact I thought it would have been so easy to get pregnant! I mean god forbid of any little slip up I would have without a doubt assumed I was preggo. Now, I feel like I’m trying to time everything up and it’s impossible to get pregnant!!!!

@confusedbridehere:  Haha, yep! I think that’s when it’s time to get drunk and get in a hot tub! 😉

@Britt214:  Absolutely!! So many years of stressing about keeping myself from getting pregnant, and now it’s so stressful to GET pregnant.

@PatientBee:  My thoughts exactly. Perhaps we’re doing it wrong by actually having sex?

@Britt214:  My husband had to explain this to me when he was having cold feet about TTC. He said he has spent his whole life being told “If you get her pregnant it will ruin your life”….. (maybe not that harsh), it was difficult for him to just turn that switch off in his brain that said ‘Nope it’s okay now’. I could not stop laughing when he told me but it also gave me a total ‘aha!!’ moment.

@NLbride:  Haha yeah.  Maybe we should get on the pill, take some antibiotics, miss a pill or two, use a really old condom while on our periods, in a hot tub.  That seems to work for everyone else.
