Some ppl with kids want u to be miserable because they r miserable, so they say stuff like that to diminish ur happiness, and need validation and to convince themselves they r better because of their own choices in life. I just feel sorry for ppl like that.

Hugs.   That’s super annoying.  I used to work with a lady who played the “I’m a mom” card or “I’m a grandma” constantly to ensure that she got all holidays off (we were cross shifts on an out of town rotation).

The assumption that ANYONE has the right to special treatment at work just because they’ve made the choice to, and have been blessed with having children is nuts (obviously there’s the higher likelihood of there being an extenuating circumstance every now and then if they have more dependants, but special treatment daily is crazy).

I can’t stand smug moms.

GreenBayBee:  i can so relate. i get it over here to at my job – and sometimes even friends of friends. the whole you dont understand cause you dont have kids. the worse for me is when everyone is talking and showing pics of their kids to each other and i come over to join the conversation i dont get to see the pictures and they dont include me in their discussions. i feel your pain and i get angry too. i feel that these women have a right to feel inferior than me just cause they had a few kids. that doesnt make me less of a woman. they dont even know my situation on why i don’t have any. sorry you’re going through this but know you’re not alone.

I understand what you’re going through. It’s rude, inconsiderate, and downright annoying. Just because someone doesn’t have kids shouldn’t make them any less of a person than anyone else. We all take different paths in life. Sorry you have to deal with this. It happens at my work too. *hugs*

I would just say “You have no right ot be an asshole when you’re raising another human being, who will learn that behaviour”.

Life is not a competition. You are allowed to be hungry even though there are people starving to death in other countries, you are allowed to be upset that you can’t pay your electric bill even though there are people who don’t live where electricity is even available, you are allowed to be angry that your boss treats you poorly even though there are people who can’t find a job, you are allowed to complain that your arthritis is bothering you even though there are people with cancer.

“It’s not a competition. We can both be tired.” Then turn and walk away.

I used to work with a woman who freely admitted that she used to make up that her child was ill, to get extra days off work.

Out of the 6 Christmases FI and I have been together for, we’ve spent 1 actually together.  Because of course, the staff with children get preference when it comes to getting the time off.  Last Christmas Day, FI ended up doing a 24 hour shift (carer for adults with severe physical/mental disabilites) because the person who was supposed to relieve him just didn’t bother to turn up.  Her excuse afterwards?  ‘My family didn’t want me to leave our party, and I knew you didn’t have family to be with’  Fucking bitch.

This is a CHOICE these people have made…why should the childless be expected to pay for their choices?

Next time someone says something like that, pat them on the head and say with ur baby talk voice, “ohhhh life is sooooo tough, isn’t it? Stop breeding, then.”
