We finally got a signed wedding congratulations from the President and Michelle Obama!  I am stunned because it was signed in real ink.  The paper had a fair amount of bleed...  I can't believe we actually got a response and that I now have genuine autographs from the President and First Lady!

We are planning to send a invite to them too in the hopes of getting a letter. How far in advance did you send yours? The artical I read said 8 weeks, but i'm noy sure about that.

I sent an invitation to the protocol office of the White House at "The White House, 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, Washington, DC 20500".  We sent our invitations at the end of April, and I just received the letter today.  They must have a big backlog.

I've done some research since I initially posted, and the signatures may be made by a very sophisticated autopen, though it has regular paper bleed as if it was signed by hand.

The insignia is letterpressed and the envelope was hand addressed by someone with gorgeous handwriting.  I'll post pictures later, but right now Mr. DG and I are going to make a priority ice cream run!

Oooh, If bf and I get married before he is out of office, I will have to do this.

Then I will have to frame it and give it to my mother... she would love it.

    What a wonderful idea...

I doubt he would come to an Australian wedding (well, not that we know when it is going to be) and our prime minister is an absolute sleeze! Maybe we could invite Liz? (Queen Elizabeth II for those non-commonwealth WBers out there!)

That is really cool! I'm laughing right now because my FH and I are republicans and voted for the other guy, so we would never send the president an invite, but it is a very neat idea!

I found out that you can fax the invitation too.  I don't know if this is the current fax number but it's worth a shot. (202) 395-1232

Also, the same site said that you can send one to the Queen of England too.

Oh, oops, missed this part, non-british citizens will not get a response.
