Tell her to pick a cocktail dress with sleeves in a bright colour. That's what my aunt did for my cousin's wedding and she looked great. It works much better for young moms, and with a corsage, one automatically knows who the MOB is.

@msaliegmom: I would suggestion something knee length and maybe lace if your mom is into that, I personally would go for something that coordinates but doesn't match your wedding colors 100%
Watters/WToo has some nice mother of the bride outfits.
My mom is 55 but she looks at least 15 years younger and is pretty fit. She is wearing something similar to this.

My mom is 49, good looking and a size 0. I want her to look mom appropriate but non spinsterish, but I also don't want her to look like she's trying to be 25. Strapless is out - she won't wear them. The wedding isn't too formal, small catholic wedding. I'm wearing allure 8850 & my girls are wearing LBDs.
