What is the best beauty secret you know of?? Mine is random but I use it quite a bit...I have super fine/thin blonde hair and if I don't wash it every morning it looks oily near my scalp...I read somewhere a while ago that if you run a little baby powder through your hair it soaks up the oils. Weird, I know, but it really works and makes my hair feel fuller. Plus on mornings when I have to work at 5am it saves me some time....sooo...what's your secret??
I wish I had some baby powder right now then! There was no hot water this morning so I took the shortest shower possible and did not wash my hair, and now it looks like I've *never* washed my hair! SMH.
My best beauty secret is eyebrow threading, but its not widely available everywhere. My place in NY costs $6, and I always leave feeling like a better person, as silly as that sounds. Nothing else for $6 can make my face look so much better, and instantly!
@misskittykakes: I use a eyeshadow that matches my brow color and fill in the gaps. Filled and defined eyebrows do so much for the face, it's like a whole new face.
I put on all my eye makeup before I put on the rest of my makeup (foundation, powder, everything)...that way color that falls onto my cheeks/under my eyes I can just swipe off before I put on the rest!
Eyeshadow primer has changed my life. I have a pretty oily t-zone and even my eyelids would get oily and my eyeliner and shadow would crease and smear during the day and eventually disappear. I started using BeautiControl's eye shadow primers and color freeze eyeliners and viola! Eye makeup stays perfect all day long!
Now I just need to discover the perfect mascara. I don't dig the Maybelline mascara in the green and pink tube.
This is kind of lame, but honestly - staying hydrated!!
Helps the skin, the hair, the nails and your figure. Plus it's just healthy!
@sunhat: Lash blast is my fav mascara! I've tried many different kinds, and this one (I think that is what it's called. It's in an orange tube)
Clinique youth surge - best moisturiser on the market! I use it twice a day and it keeps my skin hydrated without being oily or getting pimples.
My skin has cleared up and gotten much "glowier" since i started eating whole foods almost exclusively.
my clarisonic mia. i'm obsessed with it and my skin looks so much better now than it used to. and pond's cold cream for my face before bed in the winter. :D
@sunhat: i second that mascara....long defined lashes!!
I guess my beauty secret would be homemade body scrubs. using lavender epsom salt and virgin sunflower oil (rich in vitamin e) or any oil really! Super soft and very moisterized skin.
Another i found when i went to india..was coconut oil...i use this about two hours before i wash my hair..let it sit then shampoo and condition... super shine non-greasy hair.
I had moderate acne and I went to the dermatologist- and now no pimples! yay, so see your dermatologist for breakouts ;)
Speaking of Clinique...the dramatically different moisturizer GEL - not the regular cream/mositurizer. The gel is amazing! It makes my skin glow like the moisture surge, but it is much more affordable (of course I still splurge on the moisture surge every once in a while)...it's Clinique bonus at Bloomingdale's soon : )
I love the baby powder secret! I use witch hazel toner every single morning, along with lotion, and my skin instantly feels better!
@BluegrassBunny: I third this mascara! I like the orange tube better than the purple but they both work great!
Crest White Strips. I put them on before getting in my car for work and take them off when I get there. I can't even begin to tell you how many compliments I get about how white my teeth are!
Also, my beauty tip for the night is going to be Olive Oil. It's great for dark spots left over. Just take some and rub it on the spot and it'll eventually fade! It's also a great moisturizer when you mix it with your regular moisturizer. It's just plain old extra virgin olive oil.
For the wedding, one beauty secret I'm glad I did was fake individual lashes. My hairdresser friend did my makeup for me and insisted I would love it. They seriously made my eyes pop! I always thought they sounded so overdone. But I have short stubby lashes. So, ladies with short lashes, consider getting some fakes for the wedding! I'm so glad she talked me into it.
Also, I confirm the filling in of your eyebrows. It really transforms your face. My friend used a reddish brown eyeshadow on my brows and they looked amazing! I have pretty sparse brows as well!
@sunhat: I do the same! I love primer. It works miracles!
I do love Boot no.7's mascara, but not everywhere sells it...
I used to work for NARS cosmetics and I'm a fanatic. I love their make-up.... it has significantly dropped the amount of breakouts that I have (TMI? ... we're all friends here) Try it if you're a girl with somewhat oily skin!
Random beauty tip - the white part of toothpaste can get rid of pimples. Put it on after you wash your face and wear it over night. Bam! Gone..... just warn your SO if they don't expect you to have spots on your face!
@thefuturemrs.o: I've done this! It works pretty well, but you have to clean your pillow case in the morning :D
Eyeshadow primer! I used to get creases in my eyeshadow that were really noticible when I wore dark makeup. I started using a primer (Urban Decay's lid primer) and now my makeup looks good all day - I've even fell asleep in it and it looks the same the next day!
Moderation. I guess it's not specifically a beauty tip but it's helped me with so many things related to my appearance.
Moderation in the amount of makeup used. Moderation in eating. Moderation in exercise and diet. Moderation in dressing.
Finding a good balance in hundreds of little ways has been the blessing of my late twenties--I pray it continues.
Ok...that's it...I am totally buying eyelid/eyeshadow primer!!
Exfoliate! I do an at home microdermabrasion 3 times a week. My skin feels and looks great!
I slather coconut oil all over my body and face at the end of my shower- then I rinse it off- so just a light layer remains. Its cured my acne and irritated skin and keeps me super soft.
I'm 40 and I hear consistantly that I look 30. So unless everyone is blowing smoke up my ass, I guess my tricks work!
Sleep - And lots of it. When I'm bored, I take a nap kind of thing. I get 8 hours a night and will sleep a solid ten at least once per week and more if I am pmsing
Eye cream - I've used it since I was 17
Sleeping with a bra on - I've had big boobs since grade 5. I really only go without a bra during showering and sex. My girls *knock on wood* are practically stretch mark free (I got a few little ones when i lost 20 + pounds in 2 months) and still perky!
Dry brushing my skin before I take a shower makes my skin feel really good and helps to slough off dead skin. Silk covered curlers overnight with Motions foam gives me body filled curls the next day. I get tons of compliments and they don't damage my hair like hot rollers. Marilyn Monroe used vaseline all over her face and I do the same but with the non-petroleum kind. Makes my skin dewy :-)
@daydreamwanderer: Agreed. Water, water, water keeps you looking gorgeous!
My second weapon of choice is Retinol. I cannot even begin to sing enough praises on the wonders this stuff does for your skin.
@sunhat: Try Rimmel LYCRA lash Extender.....elongates and curls....it's my new go-to.
I've been using Bio Oil for a few months now...and it's evened out my skin pretty well.
Another tip for greasy hair.....witch hazel dabbed onto your roots...weird i know. i tried it...and it works!
Mine is baking soda. I use it to wash my face a couple of times a week. It's a great gentle exfoliator and it makes my skin glow. My husband even does it now, too, because he was so impressed with how my skin looked!
@crepe: Someone else was just telling me about the Clarisonic Mia... interesting! I've been debating whether it's really worth the $$ or not.
Sunscreen on your face, neck and hands EVERY DAY. I use Anthelios SPF 60 and it's very lightweight and worth every penny.
PhotoFinish by Smashbox
Eyeshadow Primer or just use some of your favorite concealer
Cetaphil Face lotion! LOVE IT!
St. Ives Apricot Scrub for face and body!
LacHydrin Lotion or AmLactin Lotion - basically any lactic acid based moisturizer. It eliminated the redness and numps on the back of arms within days. I use it on my heels when the need arises.
This isn't a secret, but I can't believe how much longer lasting and better looking expensive make-up is. Monday I bought everything I would need for my wedding make-up (Urban Decay and Smashbox). I tested it out yesterday, and it literally stayed on for 10 hours + (except for the lips). I'm going to have to be careful and not use it all up before the wedding.
Weirder things I do:
I use a tiny bit of thinned-out salicylic acid cream on my face before moisturizing. It keeps my skin clear.
I also use fine-grain organic sea salt as an exfoliant. It works really well and keeps blemishes down.
Visine - mix it with powder eye shadows and make a paste. It makes the color POP and last forever. Also it doesn't crease since you are using a powder shadow.
I have a few that I follow religiously. Use a loofah, exfoliate that skin, moisturize from head to toe daily, sunscreen on face and neck everyday, exfoliate face 2-3 times a week, and eye cream BEFORE you think you need it.
That and lots of water every day!
Does anyone have any good tips or trick on silky/smooth feet!? I am known for being barefoot everywhere which then gives me feet like a caveman! Any recommendations?!
