I’m looking for special surprises that you have done for your SO or your SO for you.
Who knows what sharing these might inspire us to do next time the SO deserves a special treat 🙂
I’ll share my best surprise: I completely surprised my then-BF with a trip to NYC over his bday (we’re from Germany). He only found out he was going once we were queing for what was supposedly my business trip 😀
I had booked the flights for about half a year before his bday. Oh my – I think I must have told ALL my friends so that I’d get it all out and not spill anything to him because I was so excited haha. I talked to a friend and co-worker of his who was my partner in crime. He got my SO a week off. I was so scared their boss would spill the beans accidentally. They’ve got a calender that has everyone’s vacation marked and SO and me agreed on sometime after his bday. The boss actually managed to keep in the supposed vacation time and never mention anything, I’m so glad!
A few days before the trip, I told him I needed to go to NYC on business and how I was so sorry to miss his bday but that I couldn’t postpone the date. The day before my “business trip”, I took a day off without him knowing to pack our stuff. I actually packed a suitcase that I then put into a second bigger suitcase so we’d have two suitcases with us. In the weeks before, I’d always sneak a pair of socks, underwear, sweaters etc. one at a time so he wouldn’t notice them missing from the wardrobe. (We’d been living together and I knew where he kept his passport, etc.)
The week of his bday, he fortunately worked late-shift so it worked out for him to drive me to the airport. (Don’t know what I would have done otherwise … He’d have been like “just take a cab, I’m not going to take off of work to drive you there” haha). When we were in the queue for check-in quite close, I said how sad I was that I’d miss being with him on his bday. He said he was also sad about it. I said then he should just join me. He said he couldn’t. I said “why not”. “Because I have to work.” I told him he didn’t, took out his passport from my jeans pocket, waved it in front of his face and said that he was coming with me. He was like: “No, babe. I need to go to work!!” He then called his co-worker who confirmed I wasn’t a lunatic. Now latest at that point I would have freaked out. He just gives me this look and says: “I would have taken a shower had I known this!!!” (He meant to after getting back from the airport.) Umh, yeah, you’re welcome, asshole 😉 Then my friend shows asking him for his car keys. He realizes this is all actually happening. Still not too excited if you ask me.
Then we pass security check and on board we are. I pulled out a little diary I had made for him with ideas for our trip. It just needed an hour to kick in, but he was actually really excited then! (He better :))
It’s been four years or so and ever since I’m just like: Ugh, I can’t beat that anyways, so why bother trying? Haha, so looking for nice inspirations for surprises.
