I have been looking online at houses in my area lately (we already own a house, but are hoping to upgrade within the next year to more of our ‘dream home’, as we’re just in our starter home now) and have decided on what I really love and the things I really don’t love! A move-in ready house is a must, as our one we currently own needed a lot of work and took awhile to get to move-in ready. An awesome kitchen – just love the look of dark countertops and wood in a kitchen! Wood floors! 3 bedrooms, with an unfinished basement (husband wants room for his pool table which we are currently storing at his parents house) and we want to refinish it the way we want it (often find that there seems to be a lot less room once a basement is finished!). Some curb appeal would be nice too! Can’t wait until we start looking into houses more seriously!!
What would you want in your dream home? Or if you already own your dream home, what drew you to it? What do you look for most when looking at houses?

My dream home has really changed through the years. As a single I bought my dream home but it’s now just a starter home for us now as it’s a bit small but perfect for 1 and a couple fur babies. I love my unobstructed mountain view most of all but the layout of space is great for a small place.
I like the look of rockwork in the exterior. I want a garden and an attached 2 car garage. 2 – 3 bedroom with a basement with high ceilings (the height of a regular floor) which would become a photography studio. If FI gets serious with the studio i’d want a walk out with a separate entrance for the studio part of things. I want a big kitchen with an island. Soaker tub in the master. Walk in closet in the master. upstairs laundry. vaccuflow system. instant hot water. I like my infloor heating. I’d like to be close to a good transit route and green space.

Granite countertops and an island, marble foyer with a large chandelier, spiral staircase, at least four bedrooms, a master bath with a jacuzzi tub and private master sitting area, at least two fireplaces (one being in the master), and a large backyard with a deck, modern pool, and firepit area…… as you can probably tell I’ve thought about this a lot haha

Our must haves/dealbreakers: 3-4 bedrooms (or at least 3 bedrooms with room for office space and pull-out couch for visitors), 2 bathroom (or at least 1.5), with garage preferably 2 car, large kitchen, older house with charm- we do NOT want a new developement cookie-cutter house
Our wants: mostly updated but willing to do some repairs and renos, just not a complete gut. Finished basement, hardwood floors, decent yard with room for landscaping/gardens, eat-in kitchen with formal dining room, gas stove

We got pretty close to it.
Things we like: large master, soaker tube in ensuite, large bonus room that is separated from other rooms upstairs, 2 other bedrooms both big enough for a double bed, large kitchen with numerous outlets and lots of cabinet space, good sized yard, good sized deck, oversized double attached garage, great neighbourhood and convienent while still being in the suburbs.
The things that would take it from reality to dream:
Enclosed office on the main floor, developed basement with a bar, central AC, more landscaping, a shed, patio, firepit (we will work on the outside), a bit more space from each neighbour along with more street parking, insulated & drywalled 3 car garage, a fireplace centred on the wall instead of in the corner, a larger laundry area, a butler’s pantry without losing any of the current pantry storage space, a better paint job, different flooring, further away from condos.

My dream home is a 2+ bedroom, 2 bathroom condo. With a very large, sun soaked terrace. Preferrably a corner unit with floor to ceiling windows. I’d also like an all white laquer kitchen, white oak hardwood flooring, concrete ceilings, all white carrara marble bathrooms, and 2 parking spaces!
The home we live in now is 1 bedroom, 1 bath.. We’re moving into our new place in about a year and it will tick off a lot of the boxes. Still no massive terrace, only 1 parking space, and the bathrooms aren’t marble.. But, soon enough.
