Have you ever done an image search on your dress.. and seen your dress on someone and cringe?

I love how my dress looks on the model and on the brides featured on the designer website.. but I have seen it on some people on the internet where they make the dress look down right ugly.. I know it sounds a bit mean, but it is true! Then I start to second guess my dress choice, but I love the dress.. and when I go in and try it on I feel beautiful in it.. I just get really dissappointed when I see the horrible photos of it...

I don't know how to word this question right... Anyone else see a beautiful dress and then see the dress somewhere else and it looks ugly? Or is it just me and maybe my dress is ugly and I don't see it??

Don't second guess your choice simply because you've seen it look beautiful on all the models and in pictures. I guess the girls who it doesn't look good on aren't made for that style!

Nice subject, I never really thought of it.

Don't second guess yourself! Like shortcherriez said, they chose a dress that did not flatter them. All that matters is that you feel beautiful in it!

I can't find any pictures of my dress on other brides. I've searched with no luck. I didn't think I picked that unique of a dress.

Maggie Sottero's Real Brides! Wasn't that helpful though--the girls were nowhere near as curvy as I am in real life!

Ok, I have been looking over the pictures and I think I figured out my problem. It's not their figures, they are all really slender. I even tried covering up their heads to see if that was the problem.

I think it's because my dress comes in the regular (empress taffeta) or the "royale" (french taffeta). The french appears to be a bit wrinkled and kind of hangy looking (hard to explain). the empress is smoother looking.. not that there is anything wrong with the wrinkle hangy thing, it just was not what I fell in love with! So I got confused seeing pictures of women in the wrinkle/hangy dress.

    regular - http://www.maggiesottero.com/dress.aspx?keywordText=symphony&keywordType=any&page=0&pageSize=12&style=A626

    royale - http://www.maggiesottero.com/dress.aspx?keywordText=symphony&keywordType=any&page=0&pageSize=12&style=A616

You can really see the difference when you click on the brides who wore royale..

    Anyways, I feel better now!

OMG...this I went through this a few days ago as well. I bought my dress (a sample) at my local bridal salon and fell in love with it instantly. It's very sparkly and very princessy and I cannot wait to wear it. I did a Google search for my dress because I have never seen the stock or catalog photo and when I finally found it, I felt sick. I HATED my dress. It just looked ugly. There is no better way to describe it. The model in the photo is probably a size 2 and I am a size 14 now. The photo below is me 40 pounds heavier, so the dress needs some alterations. I am terrified when the dress is taken in that it won't be as pretty. Seriously, doesn't the dress in the stock photo look completely different?

Certain types of dresses work well for certain types of figures.  A dress can be lovely - well constructed and beautiful and not work if the girl doesn't have the right figure for a certain dress.  There were lots of gowns that didn't work for me - the Vera Wang dresses looked uninspiring on me (but the look amazing on brides with different figures).  And the Carolina Herrera gowns were wearing me since they had so much going on.  After about 100 dresses, I found the one that was perfect for my figure.  So don't worry if your dress doesn't look right on other brides - a lot of women don't have the slightest clue as to what kind of dress will work for them (you should watch Say yes to the dress and see girls picking out completely wrong styles that make their figure look worse than it is).  As long as your dress looks right on you, that's all that matters!

it shouldn't matter!  My advice would be to stop doing image searches of your dress and just enjoy that it's totally rockin' on YOU!

Cobalt, I am wearing the same dress!  Mine is white, empress taffeta.  i think it also helps when the girls in the pics are wearing a nice petticoat.  Without one, the dress just isn't as pretty :)

It's actually the second dress I purchased; I am still trying to sell my first one.

    You made a great choice!

Don't second guess your dress choice, just because of other people in photos.  I actually have never seen my dress on anyone other than the model on the Casablanca site.  Incidentally, I kinda disliked the dress on the model and started wondering if I'd bought the right dress.  As soon as I saw it in person again, I knew I loved it.

It's really incredible how different dresses look on different people. I didn't know that Maggie Sottero had real brides on their website; that's really useful. I can't actually find any pictures of my dress on anyone... or anyone who's even heard of the designer Peter Langner, but I love my dress!

It hasn't really bothered me...in fact...one of the Bees actually had "my" dress with the alternate skirt on it, and I was SOOOO excited!  I was flattered that someone else liked my choice too...even if she picked it first!!  LOL

Thanks guys, I am feeling better since I made the fabric discovery!

Gracez, I'm so excited you have that one too! I agree that the petticoat needs to fit correctly with the dress!

And for those confused as to why I was upset seeing it on someone else, it wasn't that another person had *my* dress.. look at these 2 pictures.. I was just hoping I didn't have rose colored glasses on when I put my dress on or something!

(edited to add, first dress is a maggie bride wearing the french, second dress is a maggie model wearing the empress.. I bought the empress)

The only picture I can find of my dress online anywhere other than the model picture is on the maggie brides section. The girl in the picture is sideways, though, so the dress is hard to see. I actually searched for her name to try to find more - I even found her facebook (okay, I sound really creepy now. haha), but I still haven't seen any more pictures. I'm um... gonna stop looking now.

I had a similar freak-out when I first saw my dress on another bride...only she completely rocked the dress and I was so worried that I'd never look half as amazing!  I scoured the internet and every blog imaginable for ANY pictures of my dress on another bride.  It took nearly a year, but I finally saw it a couple weeks before my wedding.  I was a little heart-broken that I wouldn't be the only bride in the world :) wearing that dress!  But then again, she looked so great that it gave me hope!  Our wedding styles were exact opposites but I loved the way we both looked in the dress!

Here's the link to the post I wrote a while ago on this topic: http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/waiting-to-see-your-dress-online

@cobalt- you have to go via somebody's album where they're tagged, then go view it by the album. :p

missomally, that is a fantastic dress! I must say, I don't understand the shaved head, but she must like it..

How do I find an album they are tagged in? I tried looking and I can't.. either I suck at facebook or they have their pics super secure!

Ah, the way I do it is like a via friend chain. Like, somebody tagged in a picture with other people, then go via that. I don't know how to do it straight via google. :p I guess I stumble stalk. lol

I found my dress on the website before I went in to try it on. It looked AMAZING on the model (duh!) and it looked totally different on me. I still love the dress choice I made but I wish it looked like it does on the model. I've seen 2 other women wearing the same dress as me and the dress looked completely different on them as well.

Point is, if you think you look incredible in your dress, seeing someone look better or worse in that same dress shouldn't matter.

Beautiful dress choice by the way!Smile

I see pictures of my dress all the time, since it was a david's bridal feature.  But the thing is, that it's a very hard style to wear and isn't all that popular with real people.  I tried it on twice on both sides of the country and each time the salespeople said, "so THAT's how it's supposed to look!"  Honestly, provided that there isn't a second bride at your wedding, does it really matter what anyone else is wearing?  if it looks amazing on you, that's all that matters.

LOL I have! It helped me decide whether to buy it or not. I liked it on the girl I bought it from...I'll keep looking though. But, funny enough, I prefer the dress on me than the model AND the girl I bought it from! that's a good sign isn't it? Innocent

I have seen my dress or similar on a few brides but they were all size 2s!  They all looked beautiful.  But I'm thin but curvy - and the other day, when I was looking on one of the used dress sites, I saw a girl wearing my same exact dress - and she had a figure just like mine!  Actually, she even looked like me a little

I cannot believe I am saying this - she was a beautiful girl but the dress looked about 2 sizes to small to me anyway (she must have liked it like that not my thing) - skin tight, boobs falling out.  I hated the way it looked!

I ran to immediately try on my dress again - its huge on me now so I guess i didn't have to worry.

I hope I don't make anyone gasp either!!!

I just want to clarify that my cringing had nothing to do with the actual people wearing the dress! (I am not that mean! and to be honest, there was nothing wrong with the people wearing the dress) The dress just looked completely different than it did in my head. Now I know it was a fabric issue!!
