I really would just like to hear your immediate real reaction to these names - if you love one or more, let me know! If you hate one or more - tell me why.
Keep in mind that these are intended to be unusual, so if you haven't heard the name before - that's kind of the whole point. But I'd still like to hear what you'd think of a child with that name.
I chose Ava because that's what we are naming our baby (if/when) we have one and its a girl :)
Ella, Isabella,Sophia and Av a are all very popular right now, but still great names. Dawn is the only other one I would use, the rest aren't really my taste, but I have an Abigail and Jillian so my style is a little different.
I love Rae, especially as a middle name. It's a spin off of my name, so I would like to use it. All those names are lovely, but I especially like Aria, Amirah, Sophia, Ava, and Ella.
I am not so crazy about Rejn, just because I'm not immediately sure how to pronounce it. As a teacher, I try very hard to always pronounce my student's names correctly, and I always feel bad when I can't. Just a thought. :)
I love Aria - unique, pretty, and wouldn't be hard to pronounce.
I really do not like Rio. It makes me cringe every time I see it in a post, to be frank.
LOVE LOVE LOVE Roslyn. That is a major contender for when we have a child.
A lot of those names are very popular right now, (Sophia, Ava, Ella, Esabel, Rae).
I really like Dawn because it's classic and feminine. I also love Rejn. It has a very cool and sophisticated sound to it. I would associate a very sophisticated woman with that name.
I love the names Ella and Sofia, spelled exactly that way. Not sure that those or Dawn are unusual, but they're all nice.
Is Rejn pronounced like Rain? I don't particularly like that one because it's tough to pronounce, but if you changed the spelling it could be pretty.
@Natalieh86: Its not - it is Div-yuh (with the i pronounced like in "did")
Rejn is pronounced like Ren. The j is somewhat silent and sometimes a "ye" sounds in a lot of languages.
I see you edited the poll... if Rejn is like Rain, I would go for a different spelling of the name- Rayne, or Raine if you want to be less traditional, or you could add an a to the end, Raina, Reina, Reyna, etc.
Oops I stand corrected on the pronounciation of Rejn. I agree with galloway111, that you might want to change the spelling if it's pronounced like "rain"
The spelling we used for Rejn (rain) is actually with Albanian spelling, or Albanian phonetics. In this language, E sounds like A, and J is a Y sound.
@galloway111: Any of those Raina spellings are pretty.
Ella has been my favorite name for more than six years now.
Sarai. Very pretty.
I really like Sofia, but that's becoming pretty popular. Also, am I the only one that thinks "elephant" when I hear the name Ella?
My best friend's daughter is named Iliana, except they have it spelled Illeana... think of all the cute nick names! I love our Silly Illy :)
Of those names, I'd only use Dawn. And if you're going for unusual, Ava, Isabella, and Sophia are all in the top 5 according to the SSA.
I must be older than I realized. When I was in school, Dawn was a VERY popular name. I just looked and I have eight Dawns on my FB friends list. But I agree, that it's been a long time since I've heard a baby named Dawn, though I've recently heard of a baby named Juliana Dawn.
I was going to comment that OP's daughter might have trouble with a few of the spellings on the list because she might have to be constantly correcting people, but then I noticed that OP lives in Albania and I cannot begin to guess at which spellings might be the traditional ones in Albania. And that also explains why for OP Ava, Sofia, and Ella are unusual names...they may not be nearly as popular there as they are in English-speaking countries.
there are quite a few that I dont find unusual... ESPECIALLY Ava... its VERY VERY popular around my tiny little town! Sophia, Dawn, Isabella, Ella & Roslyn arent that unusual to me either! I like really unusual! LoL
As we can tell my daughter is Emersyn (which is less unusual than I thought :( )
The names I like are odd... but most are names my mom has found doing our heritage.... I like McKender, Hayze (my Great Great Gpas Name), Gentry
I also like Cullen (not from Twilight - I saw AN ADORABLE boy that was about 8 or 9 named Cullen & I loved it) I also like Kellen, and Zepplyn
My middle name is Eowyn from Lord of the Rings so none of these sound unusual to me!! Haha.
I will say that Ella has become WAY TOO popular for it's own good- so if you're going for unusual, definitly don't choose that one!
Love love pretty much this entire list. I have a silent j in my name so I totally got where Rejn was coming from :) I especially like Aria, Amirah, Sarai, Iliana, Roslyn, and Eliora.
The only name I am not too keen on is Rio, as it sounds masculine to me for a girl (probably just because of the French & Spanish in my head where 'a' often denotes female, and 'e\o' is male).
I tried shooting the name Sreya & Aria at my husband for possible girls names and he looked at me like I was an alien -- sometimes I really wish he was more wordly and less 'western' haha.
I really like Iliana and Ella. I knew a girl named Iliana in HS who was gorgeous!
I really dislike Rejn, Rio, and Divya. The others are all just kind of okay.
Out of the list I chose Eliora and Divya. I think both are the most unusual. I really like Eliora and would consider it if I were ever thinking of having a girl one day, but we are done after this guy gets here. My favorite girls name is Maryssa.
If you want an unusual name, I would stay away from Isabela, Sofia, Ava, Ella, and maybe a couple of others on the list. They are extremely common right now.
I love all your poll posts! I think you should say in your OP though that you choose certain spellings because of heritage (I'm assuming since your username is albanian!), then people understand more. Like, my husband and I really liked the name McKenna, but people kept say the "Mac" names are ugly or whatever, but if I had said that he's from Irish and Scottish descent, it may have made it more understandable why we chose that name :)
Also, as many others already said, most of these names aren't unusual. In fact, Isabel, Sofia/Sophia, Ava, and Ella have all been in the top 20 the last couple years. I worked in an elementary school last year, and in my morning program we had 5 Isabels/Isabellas! And a couple Sophie/Sophias as well.
I really like Aria, Rae and Roslyn. Rio doesn't really sound like a girls name to me so I don't really like it but the other names I don't feel strongly against, I'm just not a fan myself.
I don't like Rejn. Unless it has a specific cultural meaning for you, you might as well just spell it Rain. I'm not a huge fan of Rio, but I can't put my finger on why, because I like the name River and I like nouns in foreign languages as names.
Aria, Isabela, Rae, Dawn, Sofia, Ava, and Ella don't seem all that unusual to me.
I liked Rae.. some of the others I liked but they seem super common (Ella, Ava, etc)
I voted for Amirah, that is my daughter's name. Amirah Faith to be exact. :)
I came across that name before I knew I was having her and never picked a second.
