I'm glad to see I'm not alone!  Two of my nails just cracked yesterday.  I'm just going to buff them and keep it moving

LOL I am falling in love with this board!  LOL I too am constantly keeping my nails up because I know he could propose soon lol.  While I was in school after we had discussed engagements and marriage everytime he came out for a visit I had to make sure my nails were done - you know just in case lol.

This is so funny just yesterday I thought to myself maybe I need to try a different brand of polish this cheap stuff just wears off to quickly.

I think we all probably think about it! I went with gel over my real nail. And actually, last night when i got home from my nail appointment he asked how they were and i said good, but they'd look better with a ring with them and he agreed! :) but with my gels, i don't have to worry about them not looking good ;)

You can buy hoof laquer for horses (at like farm stores and stuff) and if you put that on your nails, it helps keep them strong and from cracking. (we use it on our horses' hooves to keep them from cracking) it works great, but you have to wait to polish until its all soaked in (like wait until the next day or until after you wash your hands again. although it makes your nails shiny and pretty by itself!)

LOL you girls crack me up - hoof laquer? I've never heard of that!

Tell the SO that he needs to send you to the salon as part of the plan right after he proposes...that way, you don't have to worry Wink

i totally need hoof laquer!!! my nails are suuuper weak and whenever they get a decent length they crack and break off :( i've been kinda wanting to get a manicure lately just for the fun of it (i KNOW i'm not getting a ring anytime soon), but i just hate that literally the next day my polish starts chipping away! any tips or recommendations that i can pass along to someone doing my nails so that they won't chip so quickly?

    I felt so silly...

I always wanted acrylics b/c I love having nice nails (no not long and freaky fake looking ones), but as many have mentioned - brittle and flimsy no matter what! So, I used our upcoming engagement and the weddings I am in as excuses to start getting my nails done. I did tell him about it and he wasn't surprized - something to expect of me. lol. Now that I started, I can't go back!

I'm sure my nails will look horrible.  Like they do today.  I never... I mean hardly ever have time to get a professional medi/pedi.  I might get a few hours late at night to do my own, so you can imagine how they look.  Also, this week I've been preparing for a hearing and pretty stressed out and started chewing on my finger nails.  Needless to say, the growth I've worked hard over the past couple of months to get (I have naturally very long nails) is completely gone!  If he proposed today, my picture to post would include horrible looking hands.  SMH.  I think I'm going to actually take a real lunch today and get my nails done... at least.  They look horrible bees.  Tongue out

The place I go usually has my acrylics done in 40-50 mins after I walk into the door... I only go 2x a month. In between, I throw down another coat of polish and they never look bad! You would need a good place to go to though... My place files the acrylic down to meet my natural nail so there are no giant gaps.

I hate manicures so much that I won't even get one on my wedding day! I'll just keep 'em the way they usually are--short, unpolished, healthy, and natural. I only like color on my toes. I guess I'm in the minority.

I paint my nails every now and again, and make sure to use a base coat so my nails aren't stained.

I recently painted them white with silver glitter about two days ago, and if you look at them up close, you can see all of the cracks from my nails moving. :/

I'm guessing I did not let the white sit long enough.  Ah well.

My nails are always a mess, so I'm not too worried.  What does worry me is the state of my hands.  My skin gets so dry in the winter.  I'm also allergic to wool and my hands break out when I touch it, and so winter can be tough with wool sweaters in the stores, etc.  I can't really even tolerate cashmere either.

But I just had my yearly check-in with my dermatologist and so my hands are starting to look much better.

Just saw this thread, I actually use a MIRACLE WORKER nail polish. It's called Rejuvacote. It is kind of expensive but I've been using it for 10 years and I swear by it. You put it on every day for a week and the nail polish becomes like a protective layer over your nails and they become so strong.

You can buy it at some discount store like Harmon, or places in the mall possibly. You can definitely buy it online if you google it.

I hope this helps, I was also worried about my nail "status" before I got engaged. My manicure lasted a whole week and they looked gorgeous with my new ring!! I'm sure it didn't hurt that my nail polish was called "Eternal Optimist"!!

I have tried soooo hard to keep my nails looking nice.  Not only for that special day but just for my own personal feelings.  I am sure the BF thinks otherwise.  But I am having NO luck whatsoever.  I no sooner get them looking nice and one by one they start breaking and then I have to start all over again.  I think I am just going to stick with short nails and be done with it.

i have shorter nails and i like them short.. i need to get a mani, but more because i'm accustomed to one than i think a ring is imminent.  i also want to get fairly cute on christmas and for me that always means opi and a great mani... i keep my nails fairly short and am very lucky that i inherited the strong nail gene from my mom.  now if only i could stop chewing on them...
