yay! Let's celebrate our successes.
When I started working out in October I couldn't run for more than 60 seconds without hanging onto the treadmill for dear life. Now I can run 20 minutes straight with no breaks! I'm hoping to build and build on it until I can do a 10k.
First I ran a mile without stopping to walk. Then I did that in 10 minutes. And then I did it in slightly less! If middle-school me could see me now she'd probably say, "Why are you doing that if you don't have to?"
@Twista: Haha that reminds me of high school. I was one of the ones bringing up the rear on the mile.
@MissAsB: I rocked every other aspect of the Physical Fitness Test but I dreaded running that mile all year long!
wow! running 20 minutes and/or a mile without walking is amazing! i have not been able to do that since high school :(
But....i can do "regular" push ups now! it has been years since i could. but thanks to Jillian Michaels (level 2)! I am not sure how many i can do though; lets not stretch it. i am just impressed that i can do one!
My FI even said "wow good job bunny! you are getting really good at those". hehe
Unfortunately for me now, I was in my peak in junior high/high school! I competed All Ontario (a high school level competition) for track and came in 4th place when I was only in junior high.
Now I can only dream!
In October I ran my first half marathon! I was so proud of myself for not stopping - I somehow ran all 13 miles! I'm excited to start training for another this year.
I ran my first marathon in November! It was the NYC marathon and the most exciting experience in my life. It was so incredibly empowering - I was smiling for the last 6 miles and cried as I crossed the finish line (happy tears!)
I used to always be envious of those girls I saw running on the treadmill or outside. I never i repeat NEVER ran at all or even worked out until this summer. I started slow with walking but have been increasing in speed and distance. I can run about 2 miles without stopping! Also, I have been so consistent in my working out. Since this summer I have worked out 4-6 times a week with the occasional slip up of course, but I think I've finally made working out a permanent part of my life.
You ladies are amazing! I'm not a runner...and DEFINITELY not a fast runner!
I hiked an active volcano in January! Volcan Pacaya in Guatemala has an elevation of over 8000 feet and it was a ROUGH hike. There are these little kids that follow you with horses and they charge tourists for rides when they get tired. When I started to take some rest breaks here and there, this one kid just started following me, certain that I would need to use his horse at some point. I made it to the top without the horse, and our guide rewarded us with marshmallows to toast on the lava!
I just started climbing a few weeks ago. It was like 2 weeks before I finished my first route then I finished 3 in row (1 one night, 2 the next). I felt pretty awesome about that since I haven't really ever "worked out" or anything before apart from PE in high school and the occasional workouts here and there. It was saddening to see people who've never climbed before do the routes that were giving me trouble, but once I finished them I felt SO much better. My arms are looking pretty rockin right now too!
I <3 climbing :)
2 years ago I ran a half marathon and this summer I am doing my first triathalon. I can now swim 1/2 mile in 25 minutes, and I know I can bike 12 miles and run 3. I just have to figure out how to do all 3 consecutively. :)
My yoga teacher training course. We were there for 14hrs a day (4hrs hot yoga, class room time and rest time), 5 days a week, for 8 weeks...one of the hardest and best things I've ever done!
i can touch my toes :)
i've been working out for awhile, so that's fine, but i was sooooo not flexible.
in grade 9 i could put my hands flat on the ground, and now i've just managed to touch my toes again. so exciting :)
I'm 5"10.5. In 2003, I weighed 225 lbs. Now I weigh 150, and have since mid-2008. :) I'm very proud!
mine's tiny, but i'm still excited about it enough to high five myself. lol, but just today i finally jogged for 5 minutes straight without a break. i just started a jogging program so i've been building on my time little by little each week so hitting the 5 minute mark was huge. my goal is to work up to jogging 30 minutes straight. i'd love to be able to participate in a 5k some day.
Well done to everyone and their fantastic accomplishments!!
I completed a half ironman (2km swim, 93km bike, 21km run) in June! It was the biggest fitness accomplishment ever and I worked so hard for it! I was so proud to come 21 minutes under my time goal at 7 hours 39 minutes! :)
I just bought a jean skirt from Old Navy in a size 4 (!) - I thought I was a 6, but they only had a 4, so I tried it on. Then I tried on the shorts, and the size 6 was too small (?). But - I love my skinny skirt!
And I mastered "flipping my dog" in yoga. That was a sweet, sweet day.
I ran my first marathon in October in San Francisco! It was something I always wanted to do but never really thought I would be able to do. I went from not being able to run more than a mile in December to 26.2 in October. It was the best feeling ever! I definitely cried as I crossed the finish line. I entered the lottery to run the NYC Marathon this November. I hope I get in!
I've never been a runner....and definitely not a FAST runner. (I'm 5'5" and most of that's torso!) But...
the other day I ran 3 miles, and it was my best time for each distance!
Mile one: 9:55
Mile two: 20:45
Mile three: 32:15 (slowed down on that last mile, haha, but still my personal best for that distance!)
A ten minute mile for me used to seem impossible! Less than a year ago, my first mile in the 5k I ran was 11:04 and I thought THAT was awesome! And then I burned out after that mile!
I also hit my goal weight recently, which means I've lost 20 lbs in a little over a year. A case of stomach flu took care of the last two lbs for me but they're staying off! I went from a size 12 to a size 8 - and my size 8 jeans are getting baggy!!
