i think it will work as long as you don't wear a cotton sundress. stick with more luxurious fabrics, and it will look great.
Agree with kitzy about the material.
Also, what if he kept the three piece suit but skipped the tie, a la Patrick Jane on The Mentalist? I love that look, and he would get the important elements while still keeping it fairly casual.
I think you're right about the fabrics, it's just hard to bat ideas around solo, thanks!
ooh that's a good idea, I'll have to run it by him later :)

Do you think it is weird or out of place to see a groom in a three piece suit (vest & tie, jacket, pants) and a bride in a casual dress?
When I say casual I am talking short/above knee & sun-dress styled dresses(possibly cotton).
I only ask because my partner wants a three piece, while I will likely be wearing a short, 'untraditional' dress, and am wondering if it will look awkward (if I will look under-dressed or conversely would he look over dressed).
I haven't picked out a dress yet, as I am still deliberating, so a comparison will be difficult, but we are having a more casual, afternoon picnic type gathering with a small guest list.
