We actually didn't pay anything for our tastings (cake and dinner). Both were free without signing a contract or anything. In fact, my Fi joked that we should just start scheduling tastings every weekend so we can go out to eat without paying! Maybe your vendors are charging because that's what they do in your region? Or because of the economy?

we're finally scheduling some of our important meetings for our upcoming wedding planning trip back home, and of course two of those meetings will be tastings! because our tastings will seem to involve some kind of payment, i was curious to hear about other bees' experiences and if they were able negotiate extra payments.
for example, we finally got the details back for our cake tasting -- our deposit covers 4 flavors, with each additional flavor being $10 each. since we're doing a cake buffet with 8 cakes, it makes sense that we'll want to try four more flavors, but is $40 worth what i imagine will be four small slivers of cake?
we haven't set the details of our tasting for our reception venue (an athletic club wth its own dine-in restaurant), but when i spoke with our site coordinator a while ago, she implied that we would just come in and order all of the dishes we wanted to try and we'd have to pay full price. since we would prefer to try multiple entrees and appetizers, i imagine this will add up.
while i'm still looking forward to both experiences, it just seems that if i'm already putting down so much money for the wedding day, it would be nice to have a truly complimentary tasting experience but i guess i could treat it as an expensive lunch and dessert.
did you have a similar experience for your tastings?
