So, I'm making a dress decision next weekend. Here are my top 2 contenders. I came into this really wanting a dress with straps because I think they're more comfortable. But I do love the sweetheart Mori Lee (4501 I think)--it's just gorgeous. Do you think adding little cap sleeves would be attractive on this dress? If so, what kind? Plain tulle, plain satin to match the dress, embellished?

Please excuse the poor quality of my illicit dressing room pictures. ^_^

Um, never mind. I am picture posting incapable, apparently. Please go to my blog: http://handydandywedding.blogspot.com/2009/10/mori-lee-4501-silk-satin-gorgeousness.html

Hey, at least it's a direct link? :D Thanks!

I actually like the one with straps on you better.  I just think it complements your body more.

I can't imagine adding sleeves to that other one, IMO.

I'm getting a vintage glam vibe from that strapless dress. Instead of cap sleeves, I would go for a thick halter strap, starting wide almost at your armpits to keep your chest open and so you don't loose the beautiful effect of the sweetheart neckline. I'd use the same satin fabric. The shop can probably order you an extra yard of fabric when you order the dress.

The sleeves might look weird on the first one.  I agree with hotchild and Mrs. Martin.  I like the second one better on you.

another vote for the second! if u went with the first, i would do a little fancy bolero or something, but straps would be kinda off IMHO.

Both are beautiful, and I usually prefer strapless, but I LOVE the 2nd one on you.

I love the first one!  I don't think it will look good with cap sleeves.  If you want to dress it up, possibly a bolero would work, but I love the dress as is.

They are both gorgeous!  I agree with the previous posters that the second one looks amazing on you.  I am not sure about cap sleeves on the first, it might take away from the dress.

Thanks so much for all your input!

I'd go with a halter, except they hurt my neck and we're getting married in Nebraska in early August, so I think a bolero might be a little hot...unfortunately. :( Boleros are so pretty.

I was mostly just looking for an option that would make the Mori Lee fall in line with what I want since I love the fabric and the shape and the back (it's awesome), aka everything but the fact that it's strapless. But hearing support for the v-neck helps with answering the overall question of what dress to get. ^_^

The V-neck dress looks amazing on you. Also the A-line skirt on the second dress is more flattering than the straighter line of the Mori Lee.

since you would be custom making the halter strap, it would fit perfectly and not strain your neck. The boddice of the dress would be doing all of the work (since it is really a strapless dress) and the halter would just be like decoration. You could make the strap removable to change up your look, or take it off later if it started bothering you.

both dresses look great (and your waist is tiny in the second one), but i love the shape and draping of the skirt on the first dress the best.

I think they're both gorgeous, and the second one maybe slightly my fave.

I honestly wouldn't add any straps or sleeves to the first one -- I think it would really mess with the line.

@Jacqi--interesting. That's a good point--I didn't think about how the strap would be more decorative than load-bearing (if you will ^_^).

I like the second one as is.  I'm not a big fan of cap sleeves.

I used to work at a bridal shop. For similar dresses, I've seen pleated or gathered satin sleeves added. It looked really cute! I'm adding a pleated halter (1940's style) to my strapless gown.  :-)
