Just for fun, I was wondering when other people on the boards were getting married and what lead to them picking their days?
My FI and I are getting married on June 28, 2008 which we picked because 1) We like the numerology of it (06/28/08 = 6+2=8+8+8). 2) It will be the four year anniversary of our first date. 3) It is the birthday of John Cusack, star of my favourite movie, Say Anything . . . *
So ladies, what are your dates and how did you pick them?
* This is really not a legitimate reason, I just thought it was a funny coincidence since, when I was a teenager, I used to wish for my very own Peter-Gabriel-Spouting-Boombox-Brandishing Lloyd Dobler.
I'm 11/3/07, which I've mentioned before was my late grandma's birthday! Also, november is our anniversary month (first time we dated 10 years ago it was 11/6, this recent dating anniversary 11/1), and my birthday is 11/5! Also- football and basketball have a break(Mr. Kiwi coaches) , and our wedding falls in the break time, which equals a good wedding date!
9/20/08..... no real significance, except for that we both like September, and the venue we were hoping for only had one Saturday open in September of 08
9/22/07...our first date was on 9/8/01, but in Los Angeles, early September can be HOT so we pushed it back. Other considerations were availability of the location we wanted and my uncle's birthday which is Sept. 29.
Our Wedding Date is October 20, 2007. I have always known that I wanted a fall wedding- the weather here in Savannah is so nice during that time of year- and we went on our first date last October, so that's why we chose the month. We picked the date because SEC Football is religion around these parts- and it is University of Georgia's off weekend. Goofy reason to pick a date- but around here people are thanking us for it! Go Dawgs!
05/24/2008... We chose this date because we wanted a May or June Wedding. We started looking in February of this year and that was the only date available at the place we wanted. Come to find out it is Memorial Weekend, which explains why it was open.
I'm getting married June 28, 2008 as well! We knew we wanted to get married in the summer because we've both got a lot of family who are teachers, as well as a lot of cousins that are still in school. We figured it would be easiest for everyone to travel during the summer. We knew several other couples getting married June 14 and June 21 so we knew those dates were out. July is a busy month as far as birthdays in my family, so we decided to go with June 28. Plus, I think it's just a pretty number :)
We are getting married 2/23/08. Feburary is in the off season. In our area it is cheaper. We are paying $5,000 less at our venue for the same services people pay double in the summer for. It is also his sisters bday that passed away.
August 23, 2008! We picked it because I wanted a late August wedding (in Vancouver, July and August are pretty much the only months when it's not that likely to rain, and August is usually warmer than July) so we could get married outside. Also, 23 is my favourite number, and I like that the 8's repeat in our wedding date 08-23-08. I know that's silly, but I just like how it looks!
We picked 9/29/07 because we're going to the Big Island of Hawaii to get married. Any earlier and we're still kind of in Summer tourist season (and the higher rates that go along with it). Any later and we risk being trampled by Ironman Triatheletes. If we waited until after Ironman, we'd be heading right into the holiday season and back up at peak season travel rates.
Nash0922--that's the day before my wedding was (5/25/07)! We had the same Memorial Day realization after booking the venue. Also, it was the night of my old high school's graduation--a big date for a lot of my friends (little siblings) and parents' friends (kids)! Ah well. Most people showed up anyway ;-) Some people made a Memorial day vacation out of it :-)
08/05/07. because our venue had the date open, it gave us slightly under a year to plan, and my brother (who walked me down the aisle) would be on his summer vacation. it was all for practical reasons.
3/14/08 is our date. I wanted 2/14/08 - how cute would a Valentine's Day wedding be?? But Feb is a crazy busy month for FI at work; so just pushed it back one month to March and kept the 14th. That way on Valentine's Day I can always say "ooooh, 1 more month until our anniversary Sweetie" and he can't forget
We chose 4/26/08 mostly because our wedding will be in Jamaica and April is still one of the best months there. Our resort starts lower rates after April 15. So that's the Saturday we chose.
April 19, 2008! We wanted April and picked school vacation week for teacher and student friends and family. We also had to make sure it didn't coincide with Seville's big Spring Fair, which is the week prior...
Tentatively it's April 25, 2009. We chose this date because it's during the off season. If this particular venue we are looking into pans out though, the date may be switched to Sunday, May 24th so the fees will be less (instead of $15,000 food & drink minimum for Saturday, it will be $8,000) and it will be easier for our out of town guests to come (3-day weekend and all).
9/20/08 and I'm right there with Miss Blushing - we wanted the fall, so narrowed it down to September (mostly because I didn't want to wait any longer into the fall!!!). Our venue only had the 13th and 20th open for Saturdays and since 13 isn't always the luckiest number, we went with the 20th!

To the dude's dismay, we're not planning on playing up the fact that it's Flag Day. I vetoed red, white, and blue decorations....;)
