So they’re going to basically ruin the first ring by sizing it down from a 7 ro a 4.5?  Then allow you to return it in exchange for the custom made ring?

I mean… it sounds like a good solution for you, but I don’t see what’s in it for them?  Are they going to be able to send the first ring back to the manufacturer and they’ll just melt it down and use the gold and diamonds in another ring?

Before you agree to this, I’d make DOUBLY sure that you will still be able to return your sized down ring with no extra fees etc… once your custom one arrives.

Aw, that whole situation is really a bummer ๐Ÿ™ But if they originally advised against sizing the 7 down to a 4.5, I wouldn’t do it now. The stones will be way more likely to fall out if the ring is sized down that much. I think they should refund you some small percentage of the original purchase back, though, for all of the unexpected and uncommunicated extra time this is taking.

You might want to check and see if there is an indepdendent, reputable jeweler around who does resizing in-house.  All the work I need done will just be a couple days without my rings….

If I was you I would get a cheap nice looking fake ring to hold you over until your real ring is finished. It may not be the ring you wanted but it will still be something on your finger for when you go on vacation. But then again, this is just what i would do, Good luck, and btw what ring did he get you? I was just looking online at zales when you posted this! hehe

@Mariska24:  I was thinking that option for the new ring you have on order – the size 5, so you would have it for the trip! ๐Ÿ™‚

It sounds like sizing down the original ring would casue damage to the point of possibly losing stones.  If you were just wearing it to work in an office, it might be OK, but if you’re going on vacation I think it’s a bad idea….you could lose a stone the first day!  I know that with channel set diamonds, if you lose one you’ll end up losing more if you let it go too long…so that would scare me.  They may not want to take it back if it’s missing stones, because then they can’t reuse the diamonds like they had most likely originally planned.  I also have to wonder, if they couldn’t size the original ring down to your size, why can they size the new ring down with no problems?  Something about that seems off to me and I’d question it.  I had a ring sized down less than a whole size once, and within DAYS I’d lost 3 diamonds!!  Some settings aren’t made to be sized, unfortunately.

My zales near me doesn’t call. I had to get a new stone set in my hoop earrings and they had it back in the store for a whole month! I would be calling that store every day!

you should pick it up and take it to another jeweler so that it can be sized down, Big chain stores usually take longer but a local jeweler could probably do it right then and there. usually takes around 1-2 hours, and you would have your ring asap!

I have had a TON of problems with Zales…  Online and in store…  with several different items including my engagement ring… I stopped going there.
