I was inspired by another bee who had a cute heart on her ring finger, and have now been obsessing about wedding nails. I had originally planned just to paint an opaque nude on my nails, but now I’d like to paint my ring finger to match my rose gold engagement ring (and wedding band).
I spent this afternoon googling for the perfect rose gold nail polish, and didn’t find anything that was exactly right, and I’m crazy, so it must be PERFECT. So I went down to the mall and tried different polishes at Sephora, MAC, and the drug store, and settled on Essie’s “Penny Talk” with a layer of gold sparkle on top or mixed in (hadn’t quite sorted that out).
Anyway, I was sitting on toilet (tmi) staring at the nail polish tester I had painted on my finger and thinking about how it’s not quite right, and I remembered a tutorial I saw to make your own nail polish with eyeshadow or loose pigments. Too bad I don’t have that kind of thi-WAIT! Thank you grandma!! My grandma gave me a set of pigments for christmas that I haven’t touched yet, in pinks and nudes and golds… Anyway, long story short, MAC “Silk Stocking” is A PERFECT MATCH for rose gold. I can’t wait to get some clear nail polish tomorrow to try it out.
SO EXCITED OMG

@Junip3r: Ooh, I would love to see a pic! I had not heard of that! I have so many eyeshadows at home (Bare Minerals) that I hardly ever use. I keep buying because they’re pretty but tend to stick with neutral colors since I kind of suck at doing my eye makeup, lol! :-p

Okay, so I got a small bottle of OPI topcoat, dumped a bit out, and poured in as much pigment as I could, thinking it would get the best color.
That was wrong.
The shade is perfect, but the nail polish is really thick and was very hard to paint. I’m going to have to get some more clear coat to water it down. It was also a little lumpy – my bottle didn’t have a ball bearing inside, but I bet that would help.
Other than that, it’s pretty damn good. It’s very satiny and doesn’t have the same chrome shine that metal has, but I think a couple of clear coats would help that.
The pictures are terrible but you get the idea.
The lighting makes it look very yellow, but trust me, it’s pink!
