Zoom whitening? Advice?

i’m a dental hygienist – don’t be nervous but expect discomfort/sensitivity. zoom is super strong and tomorrow you might be miserable. ask them to give you (they should anyways) a really good sensitive toothpaste. if you have at home whitening trays, put the toothpaste in those tonight and sleep with them in. whitening dehydrates the teeth so tonight and tomorrow drink A LOTTTTTTTT of (room temperature) water to rehydrate them – they will help close the “pores” of the teeth and reduce sensitivity.

you might get some leakage where your gums get a bit of the whitening formula on them – it will make ur gums turn white. no worries at all, this will go away. go to the pharmacy and get some vitaman e oil and it’ll help a lot.

the process itself isn’t that fun but just relax and try to take your mind off of it  – you’ll be fine. you can’t talk or do much once you’re in there. try not to move your mouth/lips/tongue a lot because if the barrier comes off it is super annoying for the hygienist and she will have to reapply it!

good luck!

@jesssamesssa:  you’ll be functional! but like… it might be quite sensitive when you breathe in. the first time i had it done I was miserable. but I’ve had it a few times since then and it was okay. i don’t love doing it on patients because they ALWAYS call the next day to complain about sensitivity. so i just like to prep people for the worst case scenario. it could be uncomfortable. but your interview should be okay! TAKE SOME ADVIL/TYLENOL right after. for sure. and again tomorrow morning!

@jesssamesssa:  perfect. you should be okay. just drink lots of water after, avoid any dark food, and use sensitive toothpaste and you should be golden. good luck in your interview!

Also just curious (you don’t have to answer) how much is Zoom whitening?

@jesssamesssa:  I would stop once you start to feel the ‘lightening’.  I didn’t and kept going through round 3 and the lightening continued all night. I don’t reccomend it trying to tough it out, two rounds still gave nice results!

@Bazinga:  most places charge around $500…. which is crazy. some places will do it for free if you’re a new patient (and get the full radiographs, new patient exam, etc).

@mu_t WOW that is a heck of a lot more than I expected. I’ll just get some white strips and call it a day lol. I just wanted my teeth to be a little whiter, I don’t have any events coming up so it wouldn’t be worth it for me right now.

@mu_t:  Is it bad to do to your teeth? As in enamel damage or anything of the sort?
