@kansas_nurse:  Posting so I can come back and see what others say. I do the class as well, but considering getting the video since the classes are starting to get expensive.

I looove zumba! I’ve tried the zumba for wii game when I wasn’t able to take classes for awhile, and I liked it but not as much as in-person classes. I worked up a sweat but didn’t feel like it was as hard of a workout, maybe I was slacking off more since there isn’t the same accountability as in a class with other people. Not quite the same as a dvd, but same principle, in that you’re dancing along at home watching a tv screen ๐Ÿ˜‰

I bought the DVDs back at X-mas. And while I used them, and even invited friends over to do it with me, I don’t like them anywhere near as much as a class. In class there are a group of people keeping the energy high and having a good time together. It’s hard to get that same level of energy at home alone, but not impossible. The biggest thing for me was the music. I don’t know what kind of music you have had in class, but we use current music that most people would recognize, stuff with words you can sing along to and a good beat. The DVDs are strictly “cultural” music. African, Brazilian, etc. and I just couldn’t get into it as much. Somehow it’s easier to get into it when you are giggling and moving around to “Shake that A**” than to a Brazilian beat you’ve never heard before…or heard a million times if you’ve been doing the videos for a while. ๐Ÿ˜‰

That said, if there isn’t a class anywhere near you, and you have the self motivation to put the DVD in and press play every day, you will still get a workout from the DVDs. You just have to actually do it!

I also highly suggest finding a few people close to you who would be interested in Zumba too, and setting up a time to meet at your house. Or a rotation of each person’s house. It will help keep it more fun. Like I said in the previous post I had friends that would do it with me. They would drop by right after work and we’d do the DVD then they would head home. Much better than the nights I had to do it by myself. Although I admit to not being very self motivating, and need encouragement most of the time. ๐Ÿ˜€
