I’ve been lurking around for a while – I had an active account back when I was planning my wedding and now I’m TTC. I’ve been searching around to see if anyone is in a similar predicament as me but just thought I’d go ahead and post!
Background: I came off BCPs in mid-December and then had two cycles of 30/31 days each, which was the same cycle length I had before when I was not taking BCPs. I haven’t been temping/charting yet.
My last AF was February 15th, and I had lots of EWCM right around CD18 (we BD’d in the days before and after) and then expected AF or a BCP around March 18th. I’ve been getting BFNs since around CD27 and got another one today. No sign of AF!
In my entire life, I’ve never been this late. Around the time this AF was due, I started getting REALLY REALLY sore boobs, which I’ve never experienced in my whole life, and my boobs are at least a half cup size bigger. I’ve also had really light cramps every single day, mainly on my left side near my ovaries for the last 2 weeks. I’ve also had a few days where I just get exhausted and sleep for several hours in the afternoon and have no trouble sleeping another 10 hours at night. I’ve had bouts of nausea as well.
My thought is:
1. I’m pregnant and for whatever reason its not showing up on the test;
2. I didn’t ovulate when I thought and I’ll get my period in another week or so; or
3. Something is wrong. I’ve had a ruptured ovarian cyst before but have never been diagnosed with PCOS. But would that cause the sore boobs?
Anyone ever had anything like this go on? I couldn’t get an appointment with an OB until April 15th – I just want to get a blood test!

Silly question, but are you testing correctly? I’ve heard of pregnant women getting negative tests because they did them wrong!

All three of those are a possibility.
A friend just told me yesterday that she’s pregnant, 13 weeks, yay! Basically the exact same story as you, went off the pill, had the normal pill withdrawal bleed, had one period a month later, next period didn’t come. She tested and even went to the doctor and he tested as well. Negative. She didn’t get her BFP until like 6 weeks pregnant (dates as confirmed by ultrasound). Apparently it’s possible to be pregnant but just not have enough of the hormone yet to trigger the test? I knew that would happen when people try to test early, before AF is due, but didn’t realise it could happen that far along!
Anyway, just thought I’d share that story! Good luck and fingers crossed for you!

What do you mean correctly? I think I’ve followed the instructions right – pee on stick first thing in the morning for 5 seconds, wait however long the box says and then check the results. I could totally just be doing something wrong though, anything I could be missing?

Thanks for that story – I’ve been googling that possibility for the last week but its always good to hear even more success stories! I so badly want to have a baby by the end of 2015 for personal and work reasons, and this is my last chance!

It sounds like you are using the “idiot proof” type of test. I used a cheap test. I pred in a cup, dipped the stick, and checked after I finished doing my business and washing my hands. BFN. My dog was being a pain, so I took her out before throwing out the test. When we got back an hour later there was a clear line. I consider myself a fairly smart person, but I missed a couple BFPs due to not waiting long enough.
I would keep trying once a week for the next month. My cycles were really off coming off of the pill.

When I came off the pill i had two normal periods and then they disappeared completely for 6 months and I was diagnosed with hypothalamic amenorrhea. I highly doubt that’s your issue since it’s pretty rare but when my period was missing I did a lot of googling and found a lot of people who had the same experience as you. You are probably just having a weird cycle as sometimes it takes a few months to regulate after going off the pill. Keep us updated!!

Sometimes you can have normal cycles and then realllly long ones coming off the pill. The EWCM could have been your body ‘gearing up’ for O but then not actually happening.. The only way to really know is temping.
I hope I’m wrong and you get your BFP though!!
