The dress i fell in love with was not available in my city so i had to drive over 2 hours to a bridal store that had a sample i could try on. i called them in advance to check that it was in budget and to let them know that i was coming.
When i got there i noticed a poster on the door which said ‘10% OFF ANY DRESS”
There was another poster by the till.
When i ordered the dress and paid the deposit i queried the 10% off but they said it was only for sample dresses. I didn’t query this any further.
Does this sound legit or was i ripped off? I wasn’t bothered at first but 2 weeks after ordering the dress i’m fining myself annoyed about it!

It sounds legit to me. It’s not uncommon for shops to give discounts on sample gowns because of the wear-and-tear they endure. But when you order a new dress, it hasn’t taken any abuse, so why would they give you the sample discount on a new one?

I think if it was sample dresses they should have been clear about that on the sign.

Uhhh…. I would check into that with a manager. They should at least clarify the advertisement for other brides if that’s the case. Keep your receipts!

If the sign didn’t specify, they legally have to honor it.

I think the sign needs to be clearer,it’s very misleading.
i understand that sample dresses are often sold for a discount and i wouldn’t expect to get a non sample for a sample price. But when you see a sign that says 10% off ALL dresses you would think that would mean ALL dresses! Plus i would expect a bigger than 10% discount on a sample dress.
It was the shop owner that i dealt with, she owns the shop with her sister. They just took it over a year ago and hadn’t worked in retail before. I think perhaps they are not too savvy with advertising.
I honestly think they just didn’t want to give me the discount because i went in to order a specific dress, travelled all that way and wasn’t going to leave without ordering it.
