Our reception will be in a hotel in a mid-sized city in France. We are bringing our own champagne and paying corkage per bottle and there will be wine pairings with the dinner. Apart from that, for those who don’t drink wine/champagne, we were thinking of offering cocktails during the cocktail hour and after dinner/cake while people dance. The hotel gave us two options –
22 euros per person per hour for open bar
or a consumption bar of 13 euros per alcoholic beverage and 9 euros per non-alcoholic cocktail. supposedly, all drinks are made with freshly squeezed juice and hence the price.
This seems insane to me!!
We won’t have too many big drinkers so I think the consumption bar is a better option but 13 euros per drink seems outrageous.
Could some of you who have done consumption bars please tell me how much you have paid per drink?
Also, if you have a strategy to bring down the price that would be great!
I live in the US and am not sure if this is typical in France….I certainly didn’t think if it was typical here.
