@livelivenoticed:  I don’t think it will be too large. Dinner plates are 11-12″ in diameter, chargers 13″ if you are using them. Add one inch to the edge of the table and a few inches for stemware. Each place setting will take up 18″ maximum.

With 2 place settings across from each other that still leaves 36″ iin the middle of the table for your centerpiece and service pieces like salt and pepper, butter, rolls etc.
