Hi bees,
I’m conflicted. Solitaires are beautiful, but I also love halos.
With a solitaire, the diamond would have to be bigger.
Assuming everything else stays the same, would you rather have a 0.8ct round center with halo or would you rather have a 1ct round solitaire?
Thoughts and feedback would be great. Thank you!

1 carat round, hands down The ultimate classic.

I would have the 1 ct solitaire. The setting for a solitaire is generally much cheaper than a halo setting. If in the future you decide to halo it, it will be a bigger diamond and it is cheaper to buy a new setting than a bigger diamond.

Solitaire. But I’d pick a better specs 80pt solitaire over a 1ct, hands down. After years of wear and tear and soap scum, I’ve found myself gravitating away from melee and pave. I’ve got halos that are as old as me but looking much fresher than I do, lol, they just require more upkeep so they’ve become cocktail rings to me.
Just my $0.02.

Solitaire for me, but have you tried both on? I was fancying a halo but when I tried one on it wasn’t me. You could find the opposite.

I LOVE halos! I think they are stunning. But as others have said, you can’t go wrong with a solitaire – it’s a classic. So it’s a real tough question. I’d go halo, but it’s just a taste thing.

Thanks for your responses!
im still so torn! I’ve tried both on. They are both so gorgeous. The thing is, it seems like the solitaire doesn’t have the same wow factor as the halo from a distance, but up close the wow factor is definite there. Both are also so very sparkly! As of now, both rings are approximately same price, and the diamonds practically the same specs aside from the carat weight.
i agree it’s cheaper to upgrade the setting than the diamond in the future, but I feel like there will be lots of sentimental value in the original ring I choose, especially because my bf is working hard to save for it, and I have a feeling I won’t want to change a thing about my ring in the future.
so tough!!

Hmm…I don’t know. There isn’t much of a visual size difference between a .80 and 1 carat. So I think I’d rather have the .80 carat in a halo for more finger coverage. And don’t worry about upgrading, you havnt even got your original ring yet! There’s plenty of time down the road for anniversary rings and such. Goodluck and can’t wait to see what you chose!

starrynight898: I think that it all falls on you trying both, I was a solitaire lover un I started trying haloes and realized that I loved them too, so I’d say halo, I don’t think you can go wrong with either.

I’d go with the solitaire. I adore halos, but I feel like they’re kind of trendy right now. Solitaires are like red lipstick, heels, and little black dresses– they’ll never go out of style.

Solitaire! More options for wedding and anniversary bands, less maintainence, more classic. Then get a halo cocktail ring one day 😉
