(Closed) 1st class worth using all of our miles?

  • poll: Which option would you choose for the 1st and last leg of honeymoon flight?

Option A: Fly economy and have some miles leftover for a future trip

Option B: Go for broke-spend the $ and miles, 1st class is worth it

Option C: Go Business Class, don't spend extra cash, and have a few miles left over

I voted economy, get there early & mention to the people that you’re on your honeymoon… I’ve heard SOME couples get upgraded to 1st class for free, if they have room in that section of the plane :).

PS if you DO decide to upgrade, I never really got why first class is more expensive than business. Cuz business IS nice. Definitely no need to go all the way to first class. You’ll be comfy as a clam in business.

I’m just cheap and would want to go to, say, Greece, down the road with those miles!

I’d vote economy – since it’s only a five or six hour flight. But can I ask how you accrued so many miles? I have Capital One and was all excited to see that I accrued “22,000” miles. Well that’s not actual miles – it’s only equal to $150 off a ticket! What credit card are you using?

First/Business class is only worth it for long international flights.

I fly cross country several times a year, so maybe I’m just jaded to the cramped experience, but it isn’t that bad. If you could upgrade for the flight to the South Pacific, I would totally say go for it, but it doesn’t seem worth it for the domestic portion, IMO. Save the miles and the money.

I agree that if it was for your 10hr flight it’s definitely worth the upgrade but since it’s just for the other flights at the very most I’d upgrade to Business – though there’s not much difference on domestic flights.

I used my miles to pay for 2 first class tickets from LA to Sydney for our Honeymoon.  The plane has seats that day down completely!!!  Very excited for this flight.

As someone who flys a lot… like over 100k miles a year a lot.  Airlines are not nice unless you are part of their frequent flyer program.  The higher your status the nicer they are.  They will not upgrade you just because you are going on your honeymoon… they will upgrade the people who have the highest status first.

That said… it is your honeymoon!  Fly first class and love it!  The long flight from NY to LA will be so much easier in big confie seats…

I’d say unless you’re taking the redeye back and want to sleep, it’s not worth it.  We’re doing the NYC/LAX flights for our trip to Australia and feel like it’s MUCh more worth it to have an entire 2nd trip instead.
