I think it’s similar in the US. The doctor should be able to do an “early dating” ultrasound around 6 weeks to confirm the pregnancy. (I had mine at 8 weeks, I chose to book later so I could see the heartbeat).
Then there is an optional 12 week NT scan to check for abnormalities. After that is the 20-week anatomy scan 🙂
@Lyndzo: Oh sweet!!! I’ll be 8 weeks at my first appointment so I have it done then!
Here we don’t get an ultrasound until 19weeks unles we don’t know when baby was conceived or have complications!
It’s different everywhere…so it’s hard to say what your own doctor does.
@eecuadrado: Well, every doctor works very different. You might get one at that first appointment, depending how your doctor feel about it. GL and I hope you get one. I know it can give some piece of mind and it makes all just that much real 🙂
@eecuadrado: Every doctor is different, don’t be surprised if your first visit is just a “what to expect” visit that just goes over your pregnancy in general and does bloodwork. If you’re curious, give the office a call and ask them. I hope you get an early one!!
In Canada you get one around 12 weeks. and then again at 19-21 weeks for the anatomy scan.
This completely depends on your doctor and how sure you are on your dates. My first pregnancy I had one at 20 weeks and that was it. I had complications with the other 2 so I had ones earlier than that. But if things are going well, not everyone has a dating one, and if you decline the NT scan, it is possible you won’t have one until your anatomy scan.
@MrsR4ever: Awww I hope so and I hope you guys get one your visit as well!
You should call and find out. My first appointment included an u/s at 7w 5d, , and they informed me of such when I called to make the appointment. I have friends whose insurance didn’t allow one until the 12w scan.
@ieatunicorns: Interesting how it’s different every where thanks ladies
@eecuadrado: Don’t get too excited!
My practice doesn’t do confirming ultrasounds for low-risk pregnancies.
I had an optional NT u/s at 13w, then my anatomy scan at 19w.
Now I won’t have another one until like 37w!
My 7w appointment was JUST medical information, my 12w was pelvic exam and baby’s heartbeat, and 16w was just a check-up.
