Hi bees, im wondering what ideas you have or what you gave your husband/wife for your 1st wedding anniversary. Did you stick with the traditional paper theme, go with the modern clocks theme or did you just ignore themes altogether?

I had our vows written out by our wedding calligrapher and framed 🙂 so it was a paper gift!

Kate127 : I typed meaningful words/phrases/places/dates in different fonts and framed them; so, I stuck with the paper gift.
Love the above idea of having the vows (or speeches/song lyrics would work) written by a calligrapher, that would be lovely!

A girlfriend of mine just received an artist’s painting of her wedding day bouquet from her DH! So thoughtful and still incorporates the paper gift tradition!

MrsBuesleBee : barbie86 : I love these ideas! Ive been considering typing up a poem that was read at our wedding and framing up but I love the calligrapher idea.
Ive also been considering a hollow book safe with something inside. Its very loosely related to paper though.

Kate127 : I printed one of our wedding photos in wallet size and wrote him a personal message that I then laminated so that it lasts 🙂 and my husband bought me a book.

Kate127 : We are pretty simplistic and didn’t feel like overdoing our anniversaries – in fact this year we did nothing at all. However last year a bee suggested to me a paper wrapped salmon recipe. I used cod instead and it was delicious, plus my husband appreciates a good meal. Then a week later we took the weekend to go back to our wedding venue – rented a cabin, ATVd, explored the parks, etc. Just a nice, pleasant time.
I liked the idea of trying to fit the ‘traditional’ anniversaries into meals each year, but cotton kinda has me stumped, barring tying down a chicken with cotton string or eating cotton candy. It’s past now anyway and besides, what do I do when it comes down to metals and gemstones, haha.

My husband gave me a sketch of my wedding dress and his suit on our wedding day. This is after we saw my brother and sister in laws sketch. It was for their one year, as he wanted to keep to the paper theme. This is the company we all used http://www.mydreamlines.com I have also ordered from them a few times for a shower and wedding gift. It is my new favorite gift and highly recommend this company.

Not married yet but we plan to go traditional and start with paper, maybe with tickets to a show or an experience like hot air balloon ride.

My husband and I met online on a dating site and we exchanged quite a few lengthy emails before we had our first date. I had a a photo book made with those emails and pictures of us. I figured it fit the paper theme, not that I care about that stuff, and he’s always said he wanted us to go back and re-read those emails. He loved it!

I did paper…but did it in the form of tickets and reservations. I got him a VIP brewery tour tickets forf one of his favorites and hotel and dinner reservations for a weekend away together since the brewery town was 2.5 hours away from us. I printed everythign out and put it in his card. He laughed at my interpretation of “paper” but he really enjoyed his gift!!

My husband got me a special gift certificate (paper) for an anniversary sundial (a cool clock that uses the sun) and did both traditional and modern 1st anniversary gifts in one! I thought he was pretty clever doing that, but the sundial was wonderful – it is made of glass and sits on the windowsill indoors in our family room, and it makes beautiful rainbows in the room whenever the sun shines. It also has a personalized date line that the time shadow follows on our anniversary day each year. I don’t remember what it’s called but you can find it online with a search. I thought it was a brilliant idea!
